The sweetest drop...
Peter Murphy is an English singer and more particularly known for having been the singer of the oh-so-quirky group Bauhaus between 1979 and 1983.
The singer therefore regained his freedom from 1984 and first opened the Dalis Car parenthesis in the company of Japan bassist Mick Karn. An adventure to say the least ephemeral since it will produce only one album, an album that will only experience mixed commercial success, despite its quality more than certain.
The real solo career did not really start until the following year with the release in 1985 of the single "Final solution". Single which will also go somewhat unnoticed except across the Channel. Ditto for the album "Should the world fail to fall apart" from which it is extracted and which will be released a year later in 1986.
The album "Love hysteria" which came out two years later in 1988 was hardly going to do much better, although this time the little success it had garnered from across the Atlantic. He painfully produced two modestly successful singles "All night long" and "Indigo eyes".
It was the album "Deep" which came out in 1989 which finally brought some semblance of dedication to the artist's solo career, notably thanks to the single "Cuts you up". A single which will have a notorious success in the United States but very modest across the Channel…
The album will produce two other hits in the US which are "The line between the devil teeth (And that which cannot be repeat)" (!) and "A strange kind of love".
From the United States which are particularly successful for the singer at the sight of the success met by the album "Holy smoke" which comes out in 1992. Album from which will be extracted mainly the singles "The sweetest drop" and "You're so close ".
A major success which will unfortunately be the last because everything that will come out subsequently will not work across the Channel or across the Atlantic ...
To discover or rediscover.

1985 ... the Bauhaus adventure having come to an end, we find the singer in solo mode. In a style radically different from what he had proposed before with his former friends. Rather good news ...
1986 ... after a year 1985 which allowed him to record his first solo success, the year 1986 will be a notch below and this despite this title of obvious quality. Let's give him time, it will pay off at one point or another ...
1988 ... after an empty year 1987, the singer returns in great shape and signs here one of his most successful titles. Admittedly, it will experience only mixed success in the Charts, but the main thing is to come to the surface !
1988 ... a BIG 1988 with a plethora of titles and quality on every level. This title will not be the most successful of the year but largely holds up
1988 ... a year that ended in style with this new classified title. Admittedly, we are rather in the depth of Charts since the beginning of his solo career but the main thing is that he is 'visible' as they say
1989 ... a decade that ends in half-tone with a title of relative inspiration and above all that spins at the speed of light. In this case, he tends to confuse speed and precipitation ...
1990 ... there, on the other hand, the inspiration is up to the potential of the artist. With the key, the biggest success of his solo career. Like what, when he wants. HU-GE !
1990 ... an inspiration decidedly at the top in this year 1990. Of course, this title will not meet the same level of success as its predecessor but the result is once again up to the task !
1992 ... after an empty year 1991, here he is back with an astonishing title, which in no way corresponds to his usual style. A change in tone that will not really benefit him unfortunately ...
1992 ... his last classified title. The turnaround in 2 years will have been incredible with a passage to oblivion to say the least amazing. Hard law of the trade ...
1992 ... and yet what he continues to suggest is far from ridiculous. The proof with this Intimist title of great class and which shows that he still has some under the pedal, it is clear ...
1995 ... there, it is downright an air gap of 3 years which will follow. And this return to 1995 in a certain form will not change the situation unfortunately. The public has definitely gone elsewhere ...
1995 ... there is only him to believe in a possible resurrection. That will not take place unfortunately. A solo adventure drawing to a close for one of the most talented English artists of his generation
2002 ... he will return very sporadically during the 2000s but also during the 2010s. In any case, when we see what he is still capable of offering at the start of the new millennium, we frankly wonder how he was able to disappear as quickly from the radars. HU-GE !
