Bauhaus is an English group formed in Northampton in 1978 and composed of Pete Murphy, Daniel Ash, as well as brothers Kevin Haskins and David J Haskins. Group originally named Bauhaus 1919, ‘Bauhaus’ in reference to the famous German design school of the same name and ‘1919’ being in reference to the latter's first year of activity.
Group which released a first single in 1979 under the name of "Bela Lugosi's dead", title with a totally extraordinary duration since it is 9 minutes long, which will not prevent it from experiencing a nice success of esteem in the press and independent Charts.
Several singles were released subsequently, as well as a debut album called "In the flat field", but neither the singles nor the album allowed the group to emerge from the shadows. They therefore had to wait for the year 1981 and the album "Mask" to finally see their efforts rewarded. In particular thanks to the title "Kick in the eye", title which gives them a first notorious success and the icing on the cake, on both sides of the Atlantic.
But it is the year 1982 which definitively consecrates them with on the one hand the release of the album "The sky's gone out", album which will remain as the biggest success of all their discography but which paradoxically will only produce only one single with the title "Spirit".
And on the other hand with the single "Ziggy Stardust", a luxury cover of David Bowie's track. Single out of album and which will remain, him, as the biggest success of all their discography this time side single.
They had a last notorious success in 1983 with the single "She's in party", taken from the album "Burning from the inside" which was released the same year.
