No more I love you’s...

Annie Lennox, whose real name is Ann Lennox, is a Scottish singer best known for having been the oh so charismatic singer of the group Eurythmics. But she can also boast of having won no less than 4 Grammy Awards and 8 Brit Awards to date.

Outstanding singer who began her artistic career at the Royal Academy Of Music in the 1970s, a prestigious school where she studied flute, piano and harpsichord.

We find her in 1976 as a flute player in a group called 'Dragon's Playground'. Then in another group called 'The Tourists' between 1977 and 1980, a group in which she will meet a certain Dave Stewart...

And it is precisely with the same Dave Stewart that she will constitute at the very beginning of the 80s the group Eurythmics, a flagship group that will reign on the English music scene for nearly 10 years in a masterful way to say the least.

She tried her first solo experience in 1988 by releasing the single "Put a little love in your heart", a single which was to prove in a brilliant way that she could now evolve on her own.

But it was only 4 years later that her solo career really began with the release in 1992 of her first album "Diva", which was to become a worldwide hit and show the whole world in a brilliant way that she could exist at most high level by its own means. Album which will produce no less than 3 mega hits such as "Why", "Precious" and "Walking on broken glass".

We find her three years later in 1995 with a new album "Medusa", an album that will be almost as strong as its predecessor. In particular thanks to the huge single "No more I love you's".

We will find her later again with her friend Dave Stewart but also still solo in the decades that will follow. But she will never again achieve the incredible level of success she experienced at the start of the 90s...

To discover or rediscover.

Clips :

1988...a first solo title, at least outside Eurythmics, which rhymes with a luxury cover of Jackie DeShannon's title dating from 1969. All on the soundtrack of the film 'Scrogged', a soundtrack that will bring her luck because she will drop out here a huge first success that will call many others...

1992...the real take-off of her career really took place 4 years later in 1992. A solo take-off which will show the whole world that she can largely exist at the highest level alone...

1992 ... she will chain the mega hits during this year 1992 in an impressive way to say the least. An insolent success that she owes to one thing only, her talent !

1992...and 3 ! Everything unrolls in an ideal way for her and allows her to be unquestionably one of the musical phenomena of this beginning of the 90s...

1992...four titles just for this year 1992 including 3 mega hits and 1 top hit, which says better ! Not sure that she manages to reproduce the feat afterwards but what is taken is no longer to be taken...

1993...the year 1993 will be a slight notch below the year 1992, but only slightly. It must be said that to equal this year 1992 in terms of success would have been incredibly incredible to say the least...

1993...when you count the number of mega hits landed with Eurythmics and now in solo, it gives an exceptional prize list to say the least. And it's not over, far from it...

1995...small break in 1994 and return in this year 1995 in a form which one will qualify as certain. So certain that his revisited version of the Lover Speaks title dating from 1986 will offer her her biggest solo success, just that. MAS-TER-FUL !

1995...always extremely perilous to revisit this cult Procol Harum title dating from 1967. And yet she will take up the challenge in a masterful way and make an absolutely sumptuous personal version of it...

1995...then suddenly the machine will seize up in an inexplicable way. The singer will literally unscrew in the Charts when everything was going for the best in the best of all worlds...

1995...a loosening that will turn out to be almost irreversible, which is all the more surprising. Everything smiled at her in a way that was insolent to say the least, and here she is, back down to the very bottom of the ladder...

1995...and yet she is far from unworthy. But she can no longer create the event as she did in the past and suddenly the general public has gone elsewhere...

2003... suddenly she will disappear for nearly 8 years to rebuild herself. A reconstruction that will not give anything concrete on the Singles side, on the other hand on the albums side the basic fans continue to follow her in an obvious way. And there are still a bunch of the basic fans...

2003... here she is at the heart of the soundtrack of a film and not just any film since it is 'The return of the king'. We could have hoped that the film would allow her to recover his health on the Charts side, but this will not really be the case…

2004 ... it must be said that the competition does not do her a favor and that she must now fight with young girls who are 20 years younger than her. Not easy in these conditions to fight on equal terms...

2004...it must also be said that she lost the little + that had made all the difference to its titles in previous decades. Hard law of the trade...

2005...an astonishing association between two big names from the 80s. One could have imagined that it was going to produce sparks but it wasn't really the case...

2006...she multiplies the most varied partnerships and explores original musical paths. And why not you tell me...

2007...after a slump until the middle of the decade, here she finally finds its colors during the second part of it. We suspected that at some point she was not going to let it go indefinitely...

2007...it doesn't work every time unfortunately. The proof with this title which will go somewhat unnoticed, which also proves to her that nothing is won at this stage...

2008...she loves to cover Intimist monuments that come to us from the past. Here she is revisiting Jimmy Cliff's flagship title dating from 1969 and her version will not equal the original but will do better than expected...

2009...what can reassure her in any case is that the albums continue to work well in any case. This allows her to stay afloat without too much difficulty...

2009...but as always for some time, there are titles that work and those that go 'through'. As the previous one worked, you can easily imagine what will happen to this one...

2009...she thinks that at 2 it might be better. It starts from a good feeling but it will only work moderately on this title...

2010...here she begins her 4th decade of career, which is not nothing. It is clear that the best years are behind but what she continues to offer is far from devoid of interest, that's for sure...

2010 ... she revisits here a title whose origin dates back to the 17th century, which does not make us any younger, that's for sure. Difficult to attract the younger generations to it in these cases...

2011 ... she continues the adventure at all costs but far from the top of the bill. Afterwards, as long as she takes pleasure in doing what she does, isn't that the main thing...

2014...she tries again the crazy bet to revisit an old planetary standard dating from 1956 and performed at the time by Screamin' Jay Hawkins. And on this one, it's going to be the jackpot ! Who would have thought that possible...

2014...the covers follow one another but do not necessarily have the same level of success. We're going to go from one extreme to another with this revisited version of George Gershwin's title dating from 1935 and which will go completely under the radar. Cruel law of the trade...

2014...here she revisits a new musical monument with this cover of Hoaghy Carmichael's title dating from 1930. And yes the original was never by Ray Charles...

2017...a nice association that will allow her to show that she is still there. She will go all the way and regardless of the results in the Charts...

2018...new movie soundtrack this time for the movie 'A private war'. A title that will surely not be the last because we know full well that with her everything is always possible...
