Passionnate friends...

The Teardrop Explodes is an English band formed in Liverpool in 1978, originally composed of Julian Cope, Paul Simpson, Mick Finkler, and Gary Dwyer.

The band had a reputation for eccentric statements and behavior, sometimes bordering on self-destruction, which led to their breakup in 1982.

The band's first steps were taken with the release of their first Single, "Sleeping Gas," in 1979, a track that unfortunately went largely unnoticed. The same was true for "Boucing Babies," released shortly after.

It wasn't until the early 1980s that they finally took off with the release of their debut album, "Kilimanjaro," in 1980. This first album was particularly successful, bringing the band their first major worldwide hit.

Paradoxically, their Single successes were limited exclusively to England, with "Treason (It's Just a Story)" and "When I Dream" both released in 1980.

The following Single, "Reward," released the next year in 1981, brought them their biggest chart success, again only in the UK. This success didn't prevent the band from being constantly plagued by serious internal rivalries and Julian Cope's alarming descent into drug use and megalomania. So much so that the band's subsequent US tour ended in complete fiasco.

1981 also saw the release of their new album, "Wilder," which performed slightly less well than its predecessor but was still a resounding success. This album primarily produced the hit Single "Passionate Friend."

1982 proved to be the final straw, marked by the partial completion of a third album and the band's complete disintegration.

Tracks :

1979...a first Single that went somewhat unnoticed but at least had the merit of launching the group. That's something, at least...

1979...this one will hardly do better and it is clear that we will have to wait a little longer to see the group begin to compete with the competition...

1980...finally, the time for recognition began. Admittedly, only in the independent charts, but it's still better than nothing, as they say...

1980...a year 1980 that finally saw them begin to compete with the best. Slowly but surely, it must be said...

1981...which would remain their highest-charting single of all time. It didn't take that long for them to finally achieve THE success that brought them recognition, real recognition...

1981...surprisingly, this title went completely unnoticed. Titles may follow one another, but their fates can vary drastically...

1981...they'll quickly set the record straight and show that 1981 is indeed THEIR year. Let's make that clear...

1981...six tracks were released during that year, and five of them charted, which is a real achievement in itself, let's not kid ourselves...

1982...an adventure that unfortunately came to an abrupt end with a group undermined by internal rivalries and all sorts of excesses...

1982...it's a real shame because they had achieved some great things and the future looked bright. Fate decided otherwise...

1983...a fate that ultimately punished them for their inability to maintain composure over the long haul. Hard law of the trade...

1983...an adventure that ultimately lasted only a few years and still feels like a huge waste. However, the adventure wasn't quite over for some members of the group, far from it...

1990...tracks that would be released late and that should have been part of their 3rd album, recorded in 1982. An album that would never see the light of day...

1990...as so often happens, the addictions of some members irrevocably ruined the fate of their group. This one was no exception...

1990...one last title to show once again that if they had wanted to, they could have gone much further than they ultimately did...
