Back to the roots...

Odyssey is an American group formed in 1977 in New York and originally composed of Lillian Lopez, Louise Lopez, Carmen Lopez and Tony Reynolds.

They are known mainly for 3 titles : their first single "Native New-Yorker" which was a real hit when it was released in 1977, "Going back to my roots" which was released in 1981 and "Inside out" which was released in 1982.

Paradoxically, the group will experience its biggest successes across the Channel, with a total of 5 Top10s between 1977 and 1982.

So much so that the single "Use it up and wear it out" even had the luxury of reaching No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart in 1980.

To discover or rediscover.

Clips :

1977 ... excellent first steps, necessarily 100 % Disco. So excellent that the group landed a first global hit !

1978 ... a sequel of certain quality. Certainly less playful and less Dance but which holds up and which allows the group to consolidate its place in the big leagues

1979 ... the end of the decade that rhymes with sweetness and finesse. But that also rhymes with poor performance because this title will not even be classified ...

1980 ... the change of decade does not modify the style of the group. For now, it's still so cool, coool, cooool !

1980 ... and then, suddenly, everything accelerates ... A sudden and salutary acceleration which gives them their first global mega hit

1980 ... ahh, the Ultimate Slow which was missing from their register. Here it is ! And my faith, it is not too badly successful that one !

1981 ... we go back to the soft and groovy side. Not bad, not bad, but we want more ! Now that we know their potential ...

1981 ... as paradoxical as it may seem, this HUGE title - a luxury cover of Lamont Dozier's flagship title - will remain as one of their best known even though it will not be their best ranked. It will nonetheless remain as their most emblematic title. MAS-TER-FUL !

1981 ... a beautiful new Ultimate Slow that shows the full extent of their talent. A know-how in this area more than obvious. MA-GIC !

1982 ... we put away the handkerchiefs and we return quietly to the Dance. But not too fast anyway ...

1982 ... this one already has a little more energy. But it is all the same the precedent which will have had the honors and the glory, like what ...

1985 ... come on, this time we're heading inexorably towards the exit. But with the head held high and with the feeling of a job well done ...
