Baby, I love your way...

Peter Frampton is an English singer-songwriter who started his artistic career early, to say the least, being found at the age of 12 in a band called The Little Ravens.

Young artist who, at the same time, will meet another and not the least namely a certain David Bowie, the 2 attending the same Bromley Technical School (school where Peter Frampton's father teaches…) !

We find him at the age of 14 in a new group called The Trubeats and then in The Preachers, a group then produced and managed by Bill Wyman who is none other than the producer of the Rolling Stones.

But it was at the age of 16 that he really started to be talked about when he joined the Herds in 1966, a group with which he would land several major hits.

A group that he left 3 years later to form the Humble Pies in 1969 with Steve Marriott, a group that would also experience success and fame.

After 4 albums with the Humble Pies, the young singer decides to stand on his own feet and leaves the ship from the year 1971. And it is a year later in 1972 that the real solo career begins with the release of the album "Wind of change". Album that will not go unnoticed but which will be unable to produce any major single ...

The album "Frampton's Camel" which would be released a year later in 1973 unfortunately did not do much better. Just like the album "Something's Happening" which will be released in 1974 ...

Things will finally move with the release of the album "Frampton" in 1975, album which will be extracted the titles "Show me the way" and "Baby, I love your way". Two titles which despite an obvious quality will nevertheless go somewhat unnoticed ...

But a quality of this ilk could not go unnoticed any longer and the singer brings them out in his live album "Frampton as saliva!" the following year in 1976. And there it was a real worldwide hit for both the live album and the 2 singles !

The final consecration comes a year later in 1977 with the release of the album "I'm in you", an enormous album which will remain as the singer's biggest success on the album side and which will produce the no less enormous single of the same name. Single which will also remain as his biggest success on the singles side.

It was a very serious car accident in 1978 that put a stop to his ascent to the stars, an accident which took place in the Bahamas and which saw the artist close to death. An accident that will seriously slow down his career and considerably penalize the album "Where I should be" which will arrive the following year in 1979.

Serious trouble continued in 1980 with the destruction of almost all of his guitars in the plane crash that was to take them on the singer's tour of Brazil. Accident which will still cause 3 deaths in addition to the loss of the guitars ...

Two setbacks of fortune from which he will hardly ever recover and which will plague the rest of his career until the end of his career with albums that will only experience an average level of success. And singles which, too, will experience only a limited level of success….

To discover or rediscover.

Clips :

1972 ... a career start in ease with this luxury cover of the Rolling Stones title released 4 years earlier. A copy that will be far from equaling the original for success in the Charts ...

1972 ... for the moment the young Peter does more in the extras than anything else. No single released manages to break through and the success is absent subscribers ...

1973 ... the change of year will not really change the situation. The singer will have to work again and again to hope to finally pass the level on which he has stumbled since his beginnings and which prevents him from breaking through into broad daylight ...

1973 ... the only positive point is that it allows him at least to get his bearings and especially to see what does not work. It is up to him to subsequently deduce the right recipe that will work ...

1974 ... still no noticeable improvement in sight on the Charts side. He will therefore have to wait a little longer and above all he will have to increase his level of play as quickly as possible ...

1975 ... it will not be for this year 1975 either, but it may well be that the end of the tunnel is not very far. Perseverance always pays off at one point or another ...

1976 ... he will have taken time to pass this famous stage but he will pass it in a masterly way in this year 1976. Starting with this title, released in general indifference a year before and that it emerges a year later. A title that will project him in a shattering way on the front of the stage ...

1976 ... he puts the cover directly behind with this title also released in 1975 more or less in general indifference. Title that will undoubtedly remain as one of his most emblematic because it will be taken up a few years later by the group Big Mountain, which will make it a global mega hit, just that !

1994 ... and here is the copy which will greatly surpass the original. Frampton had made a nice ride, Big Mountain is going to make a top-notch Reggae Dance hit, hence a success multiplied by 10. HU-GE !

1976 ... definitely, in the series of titles which did not work the first time, here is another one ! Title originally released in 1973, it will not know its heyday until 3 years later in 1976. Better late than never !

1977 ... but the consecration, the real one, comes with THIS title. It is this title which will remain as the biggest success of all his discography and which gives him at the same time his direct ticket for posterity. MAS-TER-FUL !

1977 ... inevitably, when we reach the mountain, we have no other choice but to come back down. This is what the singer will learn at his expense in the years that will follow ...

1977 ... the descent will be carried out smoothly but the level of success in the Charts will decrease from year to year and this inexorably. Hard law of the trade ...

1979 ... he will continue the adventure anyway but it is clear that the best years are now behind. After that, the main thing is to continue to have fun ...

1979 ... and he is right to believe it because in music everything is always possible. Afterwards, will fate give him the opportunity to return to the highest level, that's another question ...

1981 ... he will all the same try the passage to the 1980s. An 80s decade which unfortunately will not reserve only good surprises ...

1982 ... some titles start to pass 'through' as they say including this one. Not really a very good omen for the rest of the events, it is clear ...

1986 ... we will lose sight of him for almost 4 years and here he is back in this year 1986 in a form that we will qualify as certain. Sufficient in any case to temporarily bring him back to center stage ...

1986 ... he was able to adapt perfectly to the latest musical trends of the moment but his absence of 4 years will have de facto relegated to oblivion. Frankly a shame because the qualitative level he displays today is real ...

1986 ... above all that he is good in all areas and that he would frankly have deserved a little more attention from the general public in the 1980s. But fate will have decided otherwise ...

1989 ... that does not prevent him from continuing to believe in it and to move forward at all costs. A desire to believe in it always and again which commands respect in any case ...

1989 ... especially since he still manages to win some unexpected laurels which show that he is right to believe in it. The proof with this title ...

1994 ... here he is entering his 3rd decade by telling himself that even if there is little chance that he will hit the jackpot again, he says to himself that he can always hope to collect one or two small successes here or over there...

1994 ... the 1990s will not unfortunately allow him to turn the tide, on the contrary. He will release only one album during this decade and to the most mixed success ...

1994 ... yet he would have deserved a little more recognition but when it doesn't want any more, it doesn't want any more. When the winds are contrary, difficult to fight as they say ...

2003 ... when we thought he had definitely left the scene, here he is again in this decade of 2010. To do what, good question ...

2010 ... not much at first sight since we lose sight of it again for almost 7 years. And here he is again in this new decade of 2010 ...

2010 ... he is far from being ridiculous, it is clear but what is he after now ? Only he can answer this question, that's for sure ...

2014 ... a rather lonely crossing of the beginning of the new century, to say the least. If he finds his account there, that's the main thing ...

2021 ... and we will even find him in this new decade of 2020, who would have believed it. He will not let go until the end, even if the results in the Charts are close to absolute zero ...

2021 ... a nice tribute to David Bowie is this revisited version of his 1985 title. An instrumental version which will not equal the original but which has the merit of bringing the title up to date ...

1985 ... and here is the original. A version much more Dance than the revisited version of Frampton but it is necessary for all tastes as they say ...

2024...
