Joy and heartbreak ...

Carroll Thompson is an English singer best known as the 'Queen of Lovers Rock,' a form of romantic reggae of which she is one of the leading exponents.

She began her career with the release of her first Single, "I'm So Sorry," in 1981, taken from her debut album, "Hopelessly in Love." The album was a definite success, at least on the independent charts, and remains her highest-charting album to date.

Two years later, in 1983, she released another self-titled album, which was less successful and failed to produce any major hit Singles.

The following year, in 1984, she joined the project Floy Joy, contributing two tracks : "Until You Come Back to Me" and "Operator." Both tracks achieved considerable success.

But it was the transition to the next decade, and 1990 in particular, that brought him her biggest hits with Singles like "Joy and Heartbreak," "I'm Still Waiting," and "Sunrise."

These would be his last major successes, as everything released afterward, whether albums or Singles, achieved only limited success.

Tracks :

1981...a debut Single that immediately showed this young singer had considerable potential. Already in the Lovers Rock scene...

1981...a light and airy musical genre that suits her perfectly and in which she will demonstrate a more than certain talent...

1981...a talent that will not go unnoticed and which will above all allow her to see her first album particularly appreciated by the public...

1982...her second album would achieve a much lower level of success, but that doesn't mean it's without merit, far from it...

1982...there is real quality in everything she produces, even if the level of success doesn't necessarily follow suit...

1983...it must be said that she's in a musical niche that's unlikely to set dancefloors ablaze. Hence the fact that her level of influence plateaus somewhat...

1983... that doesn't mean the adventure wasn't worth living, far from it. And that's what she tells herself every day when she wakes up...

1983...because few girls have been in this very specific musical niche, and she will therefore remain one of the leading figures in the field...

1984...a collaborative interlude with 'Floy Joy' which came at just the right time in the middle of the 80s, as it would bring her one of her biggest successes...

1984...we won't call it a major success, but there were successes nonetheless, including this one. That's something, as they say...

1984...a dynamic and charming duo, but this time with the subtlety and lightness she so expertly demonstrates. We definitely want more...

1986...which didn't stop her from trying her hand at pure, hardcore dance music to see if it could bring her some kind of benefit. And this time it did, finally !

1987...a short-lived dance interlude, as she quickly returned to her usual comfort zone. A shame, because dance music didn't suit her all that badly in the end...

1990...it was by teaming up with Movement 98 that she achieved the biggest success of her entire career. It took her a while to get there, but it's finally happened...

1990... a year that will undoubtedly remain her best vintage with this new success. And once again in collaborative mode...

1990...and one, two, three successes ! This year, 1990, will undoubtedly remain her benchmark year. When things are going his way, they really are !

1993...unfortunately, what followed was going to be a bit more complicated to manage than expected. With a complete disappearance from the charts...

1993...and her final disappearance. That won't stop her from continuing the adventure, though, and her die-hard fans certainly won't complain...

1993...because it's clear she still has things to offer. And since quality remains a priority, we can only encourage her to continue the adventure as far as possible...

1994...it's clear that this sequel will be much more low-key, but there will be a sequel nonetheless. A determination to believe in it until the very end that we can only applaud...

1994...here she revisits one of the Carpenters' flagship tracks from 1968, and her revisited version is not without interest, it must be said...

1996...she doesn't get discouraged at all and tells herself that as long as her core fans continue to follow her, there's no reason for her to throw in the towel prematurely...

1996...and in principle she's absolutely right. And there are still some of her original fans, it seems, so we might as well please them as much as possible...

1996... let's not kid ourselves, the best years are long gone. But that doesn't seem to bother her too much...

1998... here she is in a style completely different from what she usually offers, to say the least. And why not, you might say...

2006...we'll lose sight of her for several years, but here she is again no matter what. She won't give up until the very end, and it doesn't matter whether she succeeds or not...

2011...another 5-year lull, but that doesn't stop him from coming back and attempting this transition into the 2010s...

2011...as long as she enjoys what she does, there's no reason why she shouldn't try to get through the decades one after the other...

2011...and in principle, who could blame her ? We would have simply liked her to take a few more risks, but unfortunately that won't be the case...

2018...she will remain until the end in her preferred musical style and will only deviate from it very occasionally...

2018...we must remember that she started her career in 1981, which is quite a long time ago...

2020...an exceptional longevity that is worth highlighting in any case, because this is certainly not the case for a lot of artists who started at the same time as her...

2021...if she's still here today, it's for a reason. There's definitely talent involved, and that's been the case from the very beginning...

2024...it's clear that with each new release we wonder if it will be her last, but she always comes back again and again, much to the delight of her fans...

2025...so, final title or not ? Knowing her, the opposite would be very surprising, and so we'll patiently await a possible return...
