The Mission (known as The Mission UK in the USA) is an English group formed in 1986 in Leeds by Wayne Hussey and Craig Adans, both from the Sisters of Mercy. Who will be joined quickly by Mick Brown and Simon Hinkler.
Originally, the group took the name "The Sisterhood" but the name being controversial, the group ultimately opted for "The Mission".
They had their first success with "Stay with me", a single which was also released in 1986. But it was with the track "Wasteland" which came out a few months later in 1987 that the group was going to make talk about him.
The year 1988 saw them reach the top of the podium with the release of the album "Children" from which one of their biggest hits, "Tower of strength", was to be extracted.
In 1990 the album "Carved in sand" was released which notably contained the excellent "Butterfly on a wheel", a single which narrowly missed the Top10. Shortly followed by the album "Grains of sand" which produced the hit "Hands across the ocean".
Two successful albums despite a group bordering on debauchery and a permanent musicians' turnover.
They will experience a last notorious success with the title "Afterglow" in 1994. The last success of a group of certain quality, innovative sound and particularly neat.
