Confessions of a Pop Group...

The Style Council is an English group formed in 1983 by Paul Weller (ex Jam) and Mick Talbot (ex Dexys Midnight Runners, ex The Bureau, ex The Merton Parkas). Who will be joined quickly by Steve White and Dee C. Lee.

The group released their debut album "Introducing the Style Council" the same year and enjoyed their first major success with the title "Speak like a child". But it was another single, "Long hot summer", which was also released in 1983, that would steal the limelight and give the group a first major global recognition.

Success confirmed and amplified a year later in 1984 with the release of the album "Café bleu", album which confirms all the good that one could think of the group in particular thanks to 2 enormous singles which are "My ever changing moods" and "You're the best thing". Two singles which will offer the group his only successes in the USA.

But it was with the album "Our Favorite Shop", released in 1985, that the group achieved their biggest album success. Paradoxically, the success will be less singles side except for the title "Walls come trumbling down" which will be the only one to know a success worthy of the name.

New album "The cost of loving" in 1987, album with great success once again and which will produce the flagship single "It didn’t matter".

The 1988 album "Confessions of a Pop Group" did not quite achieve the same level of success as its predecessors and struggled to produce any world-class single. A failure from which the group will not recover and which will inevitably precipitate its slow, but irreversible, fall ...

To discover or rediscover.

Clips :

1983 ... first title and already first success. Things are falling into place in an ideal way and bodes well for a most interesting sequel ...

1983 ... from the 2nd title, it's the jackpot ! They deliver here a sumptuous title which will undoubtedly remain like their Mona Lisa and at the same time offer themselves a direct ticket for posterity. MAS-TER-FUL !

1983 ... a title that spins at 200 km/h to close this year 1983 particularly favorable to the group. This title will not remain as the most successful of the year but it holds up as they say ...

1984 ... success confirmed and especially amplified the following year. Success is now on both sides of the Atlantic and the group just has to unroll from now on. And to unroll, it will unroll !

1984 ... they're good at everything, that's clear. And given what lies behind, we haven't seen everything yet. A 1984 vintage that will surely remain as their best !

1984 ... a truly top-notch inspiration in this year 1984, that's the case ! Everything succeeds them with disconcerting ease and this thanks to a talent of the most obvious !

1985 ... the year 1985 sees them retreat somewhat in the Charts but no real worries to have for the moment. Everything is under control ...

1985 ... the year 1984 was particularly inspired, 1985 will be slightly less, it is clear. A good job but nothing exceptional to eat ...

1985 ... a nice track full of finesse which shows that in the Intimist field, their talent really does wonders. We want more !

1985 ... a wish immediately granted with this new title. A title that will unfortunately go almost unnoticed while it is far from unworthy, it's clear ...

1986 ... 1986 will be a single title year, an extremely rare thing since their career began. Surprising because for the moment, they were rather in the bloat ...

1987 ... business resumed in this year 1987, starting with this title which will remain as the best classified of the year. A year 1987 which will be the last major for the group ...

1987 ... another demonstration of their extreme talent in the Intimist register. Another tailor-made melody with the most sympathetic result ...

1987 ... restart with fanfare on this title which will be the last global success of the group. Unfortunately, the rest will be much less favorable ...

1987 ... they have never been as effective as the finesse and the register 'With emotions'. Once again the proof with this title which literally floats in the air !

1988 ... we are slowly but surely approaching the end of the adventure. It will not be for this year yet but it is clear that we will not go beyond the 80s ...

1988 ... anyway, the group will still have achieved the feat of being classified until the end accross the Channel. And that was not the case for everyone ...

1989 ... this time, it is indeed the last. Especially when you start to get into luxury covers, it doesn't necessarily smell good. Even if this revisited version of Joe Smooth's track dating from 1987 holds up, the fact remains that it will be the band's official release slip ...
