Dead Can Dance is an Anglo-Australian group, English by its singer Brendan Perry, Australian by its singer - and fabulous contralto - Lisa Gerrard. The group was created in 1981 near Melbourne. The name of the group actually refers to dead objects that come to life like musical instruments, death masks ... At the start, the group was influenced by Cold Wave bases before switching over the years to medieval-liturgical universes, with a very fine dusting of North African, South American or Asian sounds. It was in 1982 that the group took its destiny in hand by leaving Australia to join England where the beginnings will be laborious and unproductive. It was not until 1984 that the first album was released. A success with sounds hitherto almost unknown and a universe that fascinates from the start. "Spleen and Ideal", released a year later and refers to 19th century poets, in particular Charles Baudelaire. The mystical side then becomes a preponderant part of the Deadcandancien universe. 1987 will see the release of the unmissable "Within the Realm of a Dying Sun" which to date remains one of the best. Follow "The Serpent’s egg" with medieval-twilight tones, "Aion" of baroque inspiration, "Into the labyrynth", "Spiritchaser", the latter 2 more influenced by music and percussion from the rest of the world. The group will separate in 1998 for artistic differences. Dead Can Dance remains to this day, whatever quite unknown to the general public as astonishing as it may seem, one of the 10 major groups of the 80s in terms of innovative quality and hitherto unknown at that time in certain sounds employed. Without counting the absolutely exceptional voice of Lisa Gerrard, one of a kind, capable at the same time of alternating almost the voice of man, woman, child…. Unique voice that gives its full power in the now legendary "Sanvean". To discover or rediscover...

2012...they will take almost 16 years to come back but the least we can say is that it was worth the wait, that's clear. We find the group in a certain and sufficient form in any case to hope for a quick return to the front of the stage...

2012... the return to grace is confirmed with this title. The group knew how to reinvent himself and shows in a spectacular way that he is indeed back. And certainly not just to make only some figuration !

2018... the duo is once again trying to explore new musical lands. It starts from a good feeling but it will only succeed moderately on this opus...

2021...they will have gone through the 80s, then the 90s, then the 2000s, then the 2010s and here they are back at the start of the 2020s. An exceptional longevity for a duo that is no less, knowing that the adventure is surely not over yet knowing them...
