In his street...

Philippe Swan, whose real name is Philippe Colpaert, is a Belgian singer-songwriter who started his artistic career by setting up a group called 'Calvitie Précoce', with which he managed to release a first single "Boy, Addition". Single that will go somewhat unnoticed to say the least ...

He was subsequently found at Polygram Belgium in 1987 where he took on the position of Head of compilations and special projects.

But it was especially a year later in 1988 that things suddenly accelerated in terms of artistic career when he released the single "Dans ma rue", a single produced not by Polygram but by the label Phonogram. Title which will be a real hit and propel the young singer on the front of the stage in a shattering way.

New single "Suzy" in 1989, less successful single. Just like "Mechanically" which was released in 1990, a single taken from his first "Dirty Dreamer" album which was also released that same year and which was to be highly regarded.

New album "Hip hop" in 1993, album which will not really know the same level of success as its predecessor. “Third millennium” which will be released in 1998 will unfortunately not do better.

During the 1990s, he would find more success with what he wrote for others than for himself. Especially what he will write for Fabian and singer Mélanie ...

To discover or rediscover.

Clips :

1988 ... a single title, THIS title, was enough to make the fortune and the glory of this young singer out of nowhere. First title and direct jackpot. HU-GE !

1989 ... a nice title but which will be unable to compete with the previous steamroller. It remains now to hang on and especially to avoid the 'shooting star' phenomenon ...

1990 ... a good-natured style that will forever remain its trademark. After that, that's not everything and the hardest part with this style is to renew yourself without falling into caricature ...

1992 ... suddenly, as his career knows highs - but also lows - he begins to compose for others. And my gosh, the result is far from ridiculous. The proof !

1992 ... a nice title which literally floats in the air and which proves that in the field of the register 'to emotions' he also knows how to do. We want more !

1993 ... decidedly, he displays more than obvious predispositions for the Intimist. Another title with finesse and more than certain quality

1993 ... even if the level of success achieved now is very limited, what he continues to offer largely holds up. Isn't that the main thing...?

1993 ... the adventure continues but it is clear that the singer does more some figuration than anything else. After that, everyone puts the success cursor at the level where he want it ...

1998 ... he will try Eurovision with this title, at least he will compose this title for another artist who will really do Eurovision. This title will not win but will end in a very honorable 6th place ...

1998 ... and always this playful style which will have been as much its strength as its weakness. A strength during the 1980s but more a weakness than anything else during the 1990s ...

1998 ... anyway, he traces his path as he wishes and does not intend to change anything. Afterwards, rightly or wrongly, that's something else ...

1998 ... rather wrongly because the adventure unfortunately draws to an end with this title. Ten years after having exploded at the highest level with its fetish title "Dans ma rue", the circle is now complete. But the adventure was beautiful and that is the main point !
