Blue Öyster Cult is an American group formed in New York in 1971 and originally composed of Buck Dharma (real name Donal Roeser), Albert Bouchard, Allen Lanier, Andrew Winters and John Wiesenthal. Group that can boast of having sold no less than 25 million records to date, just that...
A first eponymous album was released a year later in 1972, an album which did not go unnoticed far from it thanks to the title "Cities on flame with Rock & Roll". Single not classified but which remains to this day one of their reference titles…
Success confirmed and amplified the following year with the release in 1973 of the album "Tyranny and mutation", an album which will mainly produce the title "Hot rails to hell".
New album "Secret Treaties" in 1974, an album which once again confirms that the group is on a dynamic of success which only increases year after year. Especially thanks to the title "Career of evil".
Three albums whose covers are all black and white and which will characterize this period of the group as 'the black and white years'...
The new album "Agents of Fortune" which was released two years later in 1976 saw the group's fame expand considerably, particularly on both sides of the Atlantic. A huge album that will especially produce what will remain as the biggest title of their entire discography on the Singles side with "(Don't fear) The reaper".
The album "Spectres" which was released the following year in 1977 was not unworthy, far from it, but was unable to match the enormous success met by its predecessor. An album carried at arm's length by the Single "Godzilla".
New albums 'Mirrors' in 1979 and 'Cultösaurus Erectus' in 1980, two somewhat disappointing albums which failed to produce any major hits.
Back in force in 1981 thanks to a reorientation of the sound of the group to stick to the latest musical trends of the moment. A successful reorientation that will allow their new album "Fire of unknown origin" to stay in history as their best-selling studio album, thanks in particular to the enormous Single "Burnin' for you".
Other albums will come out later but none will allow the group to find the level of success reached previously unfortunately...
