The Crystal Set is an Australian group formed in Sydney in the early 80s by Russel Kilbey, Phillip Maher, Davey Ray Moor and Tim Seckhold.
Their first single "A drop in the ocean" was released in 1984 but it was not until 1986 that their first successes were achieved with the singles "Wholly holy" and the excellent "Benefit of the doubt".
Their first album "From now on" was released in 1987. Album with limited success and from which will be extracted mainly the single of the same name. Limited success also for the single "Cluster" which was released a year later in 1988.
Two years will pass before the release in 1990 of the album "Almost pure". Who will produce two minor hits that are "Thrive" and "She splits out stars".
In the absence of success, the group will not end up separating in 1991.

1984 ... the quiet beginnings of a group for the moment with multiple influences. Still a little work and normally, it should pay off at some point or another ...
1986 ... 2 years have passed and the group returns metamorphosed. The sound has evolved and rather well. What will surely remain one of their best titles if not the best. HU-GE !
1987 ... the following year rhymes with heavier sound and clearly more rock oriented. We feel that the group is experimenting with several paths, but this one is not really the right one, it is clear that
1987 ... a little calm after the storm does not harm, quite the contrary. We find a level of inspiration already more in line with their real talent ...
1988 ... a title straddling 2 eras. Not necessarily their best opus but good job, once again
1990 ... a transition to the next decade which rhymes with a return to multiple influences. It is really hard to locate this group on the global musical chessboard ...
1990 ... a unique style, unclassifiable and indefinable. This is also what makes their charm and we will not remake them as they say ...
1990 ... a title rather accomplished by way of a clap of end, we are necessarily taker. Made in Kangaroo Country which is unlike any other model, as was often the case with the Australians ...
1990 ... come on, it's not quite over. It would have been a shame to miss this title with more than certain quality ...
