Back to basix...

Kid ‘n Play is an American duo formed in New York in 1984 and composed of Christopher Reid and Christopher Martin. Duo that started out under the name Fresh Force, the name of Kid ‘n Play was not taken until 1987.

The duo therefore released two first Singles "She's a skeezer" and "Rock me" in 1986 under the name Fresh Force, two Singles that will go somewhat unnoticed ...

They will have to wait until 1987 to finally see their efforts rewarded with a first title classified "Last night".

But it is especially the year 1988 which will reveal them with the release of their first album "2 hype", album from which will be extracted no less than 4 Singles of great caliber with to begin "Do this my way" and "Gittin 'funky', two first tracks which also came out in 1988. As well as "Rollin 'with Kid' n Play" and "2 hype" which will be released a year later in 1989.

"Do this my way" will undoubtedly remain as one of their benchmark tracks thanks to the famous choreography they perform on the track. A choreography recognizable among all, the famous "Kick step", a choreography that will forever remain their trademark (in addition to the disproportionate height of their hairstyle ...).

We find them in 1990 on the soundtrack of the musical House Party with the title "Funhouse (The house we dance in)", Single with less success than its predecessors but which still allows the group to stay in the race. Title taken from the album "Funhouse" which was released the same year.

Although they were believed to be losing ground, they made a strong comeback in 1991 with the release of the album "Face the Nation". Album which will definitively consecrate them thanks to the production of the enormous title "Ain’t gonna hurt nobody", title which will remain as their biggest Singles success.

Title which will unfortunately be their last major.

Tracks :

1985 ... trendy beginnings but somewhat lacking in solid musical foundations. They will therefore have to find the right balance between words and music ...

1986 ... no noticeable improvement so far. The duo sticks to his fundamentals and continues to move forward without asking too many questions. Not sure this is the right method ...

1986 ... one will say that the years 1985 and 1986 will have at least allowed them to break in and to make speak a little about them. Now all that's left is to move up a gear ...

1987 ... the year 1987 will offer them the possibility of passing this famous stage on which they blocked since their beginnings. With the key to a first classified title, finally ...

1988 ... the rise in power is slow but steady. We therefore suspect that at some point all their efforts will finally pay off ...

1988 ... and that, to pay, it will pay. Starting with this title which finally offers them worldwide recognition. Like what, it was enough just to be patient ...

1989 ... the dynamics are now well in place and the duo unroll with an ease more than obvious. At least in the area that is theirs ...

1989 ... the end of the 1980s which saw them in full possession of their means. The question now is whether the following decade will be synonymous with consecration or disappearance. Good question...

1990 ... success is now limited only in the USA. Not necessarily a good omen all this ...

1990 ... a year 1990 which will not be remembered as their best vintage but which nonetheless sees them managing to stay afloat without too much difficulty. And when you see what is on the horizon, not really to worry about them ...

1991 ... then THIS title comes ! The title of the consecration, the true one, the one that will offer them their direct ticket to posterity. A title where words and music are perfectly balanced, hence a well-deserved success. HU-GE !

1991 ... unfortunately, the fall will be severe behind to say the least. With a pure and simple disappearance of the Charts and above all an end of the adventure which is clearly on the horizon ...

1994 ... the group disappears from the radar for 3 years and returns in this year 1994 in a very average form. This time, the cup is full : end of the adventure pure and simple ...
