The Cult is an English group formed in 1983 and originally composed of Ian Astbury, Buzz Burrows, Barry Jepson and Aki Nawaz Qureshi. Group which will play at its beginning under the name Death Cult, in truth an offshoot of the group Southern Death Cult, group of origin of Astbury. ...
It was a year later in 1984 that the group released his first album "Dreamtime", an album that would be a great esteem success and offer the group his first ranked title with the single "Spiritwalker".
This success is confirmed and especially amplified the following year in 1985 when the album "Love" was released. Album that will be a hit on both sides of the Atlantic, sell over 2.5 million copies worldwide and produce their first global hit with the single "She sells sanctuary".
The rise in power is evident album after album and the album "Electric" which was released two years later in 1987 will therefore be even stronger than its predecessor. An album which will produce on its own 3 new top hits which are "Love removal machine", "Lil‘ devil "and" Wild flower ".
The consecration, the real one, came in 1989 with the release of the album "Sonic temple", an album which remains to this day the biggest success of all the group's discography on the album side. Album which will also produce their biggest single success with the enormous "Fire woman". Followed by little to another very high caliber single called "Edie (Ciao baby)".
A great adventure which continued the following decade with the release of the album "Ceremony" in 1991. Album less successful than its predecessor but notorious success all the same. Album carried at arm's length by the flagship single "Wild hearted son".
Then it will be the turn of the album "The cult" in 1994 to make talk about it with a level of success largely sufficient to keep the group in contact with the best. Album which will unfortunately be the last major album of the group and which will struggle to produce any single of global class. Apart from the title “Coming down (Drug tongue)” which will be the only one to do pretty well.
Other albums were released during the 2000s, but the group would never regain the level of success reached in the late 1980s ...
