They can't stand the rain...

Eruption is an English group originally formed in 1969 under the name Silent Eruption, and composed entirely of members of African or Caribbean descent. The group will take the name Eruption from 1974.

It was the arrival of singer Precious Wilson in 1975 that enabled the group to gain volume and win a tele-hook organized by the RCA label. Victory which allows them to release a first title "Let me take you back in time". Single which will unfortunately go unnoticed.

It was Boney M's producer Frank Farian who would change their fate forever. Indeed, the latter discovered them by chance in Germany in 1977, had them signed in the process and initially ran them as support precisely for Boney M.

It also allowed them to release a first Single "Party, party" under his label, which became their first ranked hit. Followed by little else which is in truth a cover of an Ann Peebles song from 1973, a title which goes by the name of ... "I can't stand the rain".

And the miracle happens. The track will become quite simply one of the biggest dance hits of all time and make the group One Shot return to the musical legend of the 80s. A smashing and ... unexpected success !

The same year released their first album, album which bears the name of the group. Album which is also a hit.

Another mega success two years later in 1979 with the release of the album "Leave a light" and especially the Single "One way ticket" from which it is extracted. Single flagship which, once again, is a luxury cover, this time of a title by Neil Sedaka dating from 1959. The group thus records a second global mega hit which definitively consecrates it as one of the biggest phenomena of this end of the decade.

The turn of the 80s will prove to be more complicated to manage than expected, especially with the departure of Precious Wilson. In his absence, the album "Fight fight fight" which was released a year later in 1980 would meet with only modest success. An album that will only save furniture with the Single “Go Johnnie go” which will be a significant success.

But the group, under its new version, will be sorely lacking in inspiration and will sink slowly, but above all irreparably, into oblivion.

To discover or rediscover...

Tracks :

1975 ... a nice start but which will go completely unnoticed. They will still have to raise the level slightly to hope to touch the stars ...

1977 ... something happened between the previous title and this one, it's obvious. The level has gone up a notch and allows the group to obtain its first laurels

1977 ... then comes THIS title. An awesome track that will become one of the biggest dance hits of all time, just that. The group delivers here its Masterpiece and enters One Shot in the musical legend of the end of the XXth century. MAS-TER-FUL !

1978 ... a quality sequel which paradoxically will not even be classified. We go from one extreme to another, hard law of the trade ...

1978 ... this title will not do much better. As much as 1977 was exceptional, 1978 will be a year without for the group. Go figure ...

1979 ... decidedly, the years go by and are hardly alike. The group simply signs here a new incredible dance mega hit which definitely consecrates them as one of the greatest groups of the decade. HU-GE !

1980 ... Eruption, season 2 begins. With a new singer at stake, a daring and above all extremely risky bet. For now, we will say that it is a rather successful bet

1980 ... and no, this is not the luxury cover of Dave's 'Vanina' track. Because Dave's title was already a cover. And yes, of the title 'Runaway' interpreted by Del Shannon in 1961. In any case, it is a title which brings luck because it will succeed to all those who will interpret it !

1981 ... unfortunately, the departure of Precious Wilson will have condemned the group all the same. Because here they get their last hit, and again, a very small hit ...

1981 ... when the group made Intimist. Ultimately, lost for lost, you might as well try everything. And my faith, they are far from being ridiculous !

1982 .... the group tries to adapt to new trends and especially to new sounds. Even if the dropout in the Charts is irreversible, the group continues on its way. With a certain talent !

1983 ... the group plays it once again in a luxury cover. With this time a cover of two cult titles from the Four Tops dating from 1965 and 1966. Unfortunately, copying does not equal ...

1983 ... anyway, the adventure continues for good. And the group continues to produce titles of significant quality. Which unfortunately go completely unnoticed ...

1985 ... this time, it is indeed the end. At some point, it's time to stop the charges. When it doesn't want anymore, it doesn't want anymore. The adventure was still magnificent with the production of 2 of the biggest dance hits of all time, just that !
