The story of the wolf in the sheepfold...

Charlélie Couture, whose real name is Bertrand-Elie Couture, is a French singer-songwriter who really started his career as a singer at the age of 22 when he released in 1978 two self-produced discs "12 chansons dans la sciure" and "Le Pêcheur". Two very modestly successful records which will nonetheless attract the attention of people in the art.

It will take him 3 more years and the year 1981 to finally see his efforts rewarded when he signs with the Island Records label. A remarkable signature since he is the first French to have signed with this Anglo-American label.

This providential signature allowed him to release a first album "Pochette surprise" followed by little other album "Poèmes rock". As much the first will experience a moderate success, as the second will make talk about it.

Flagship album of the singer's discography, this album will offer him fame and fortune with the title "Comme un avion sans aile", a title which will remain as one of the biggest titles of the year 1981 and the beginning of the decade in the hexagon.

Other albums will be released later, "Quoi faire ?" in 1982,"Crocodile point" in 1983,"Art & scalp" in 1985,"Solo boys" in 1987,"Solo girls" in 1988,"Melbourne Aussie" in 1990, among others. But none will meet the success met by "Poèmes rock" and the singer will unfortunately end up gradually disappearing from the radar.

Tracks :

1979 ... particularly punchy beginnings and which above all show an obvious maturity on the part of this young singer out of nowhere. Promising...

1980 ... the singer's distinctive style is already well established. A unique style of its kind, both on phrasing and on its sound universe which will never be like any other ...

1981 ... the year of takeoff, of the big one. The general public will discover a real alien who does nothing like everything like the world. A bias displayed, claimed and above all perfectly accepted !

1981 ... he displays a style that is completely outside the standards of the moment and that works for him quite well. Especially when you see the sequel that is on the horizon ...

1981 ... the title of the revelation ! He finally goes from shadow to light and with this title obtains the beginning of recognition after which he has been chasing for years ...

1981 ... a style which explores all possible avenues and especially all musical styles. After reggae, here he is in pure rock. So what will his next exploration be ?

1981 ... the next exploration, here it is. And what exploration ! Here he delivers a beautiful Rocko-Intimist title which will undoubtedly remain like his Mona Lisa and which offers him his direct ticket to posterity. HU-GE !

1982 .... an adventure which continues once again without taking into account the latest musical developments of the moment. But no matter what, he does what he wants ...

1982 ... a musical marginality which is as much its strength as its weakness. Far from the expectations of the general public, he goes where he wants and for the moment, it works !

1983 ... and yet, when he wants, he can go back to the beaten track and satisfy the tastes of the general public. The proof with this title which works perfectly and which allows him to get back to the front of the race

1983 ... here he arrived in Dance mode, an area we never imagined seeing him explore. He once again demonstrates a remarkable ability to adapt. But that's only when he wants ...

1983 ... a truly unique musical universe which sees him alternate between so-called 'normal' pieces and completely 'wacky' ones. This would rather be part of the second category ...

1984 ... the beginning of the 1980s revealed and consecrated him. The middle of the decade will see him gradually disappear from the radar without demerit. The proof with this title ...

1984 ... the year 1984 sees him all the same keep afloat without too much difficulty thanks to titles which really hold the road. Unfortunately for him, the general public has gone elsewhere ...

1986 ... which does not prevent him from continuing to believe in it. An obvious goodwill which allows him to continue producing titles of more than certain quality ...

1987 ... a nice title full of finesse which once again shows its great versatility. A versatility that is only found in the greatest ...

1988 .... he will never come back in contact with the best again, but he is far from being ridiculous, that's clear. It remains to be seen how long he will last outside the system ...

1988 ... a title with an indefinable style, one more. The singer is a past master in the art of blurring the lines and especially of exploring paths that no one else would dare to take ...

1988 ... another title of more than certain quality and which allows him to exist a little at the highest level. For how much longer...

1990 ... the decade too many. He will have managed to stay afloat without too much difficulty during the 1980s, but its style is now really too out of step with the competition. Attention danger...

1990 ... a nice title, all finesse and lightness but which will not be enough to save the soldier Couture. The game is over but he doesn't know it yet ...

1991 ... a crazy title which, in a more favorable context, could have possibly worked. But the singer is now part of the past and that, nothing and nobody, will be able to change nothing ...

1991 ... another pretty ballad of which he has the secret. But the 90s rhyme with unbridled tempos and electronic sounds galore. Not really his drug ...

1992 ... in the same vein. But what did not work the previous year will not work that year unfortunately for him ...

1994 ... a touch of madness that will have accompanied him throughout his career. A unique singer for a unique career necessarily ...

1994 ... he will cross the decade 90 in relative anonymity and only his base fans will still be there to follow him. Hard law of the trade ...

1995 ... a very simple title which nevertheless literally floats in the air. Like what the simplicity of times can produce remarkable things ...

1997 ... we go from one extreme to another. After the smoothness and finesse, here comes the speed and the noise. Not sure that this title remains as its most successful ...

1999 ... quality once again but which will go somewhat unnoticed once again. The adventure will continue for the next decade, but that's another story ...
