Martine St. Clair, whose real name is Martine Nault, is a Quebec singer who began her artistic career after being discovered by Luc Plamondon following her win at the Cégeps En Spectacle competition with her performance of "Le Monde est stone."
This led to her being offered the role of Cristal in the Quebec version of Starmania in 1980. This role allowed her to achieve her first success with the song "Monopolis."
This exposure led to her meeting Gilbert Bécaud a short time later, with whom she recorded the song "L'amour est mort" in 1981. This song brought her her first real solo hit.
She released her first album, "Cœur Ordinateur," in 1982, an album that confirmed the young singer's status as one of the hottest acts in Quebec at the time, with tracks like "Le fils de Superman," "Un homme sentimental," and "Oublie moi," among others.
This success was further cemented with the release of the album "Il y a de l'amour dans l'air" two years later in 1984. This album primarily featured the title track and "On va s'aimer," two songs well-known to other singers.
Her next album, "Ce soir l'amour est dans tes yeux," followed in 1986, which remains her highest-charting album, largely thanks to its title track.
The album "Martine St. Clair" was released in 1988, achieving less success but still achieving some popularity. Similarly, "Caribou" in 1990 also found favor with the public.
Other albums and singles would follow, but they struggled to achieve the same level of success as their predecessors.

Tracks :
1980...it was Starmania that allowed young Martine to make her entrance onto the scene. A truly remarkable entrance...
1981...but it's especially THIS duet that will really launch her career. A rather unlikely duet with a singer not exactly of her time, and yet...
1982...it's now time for the young singer to spread her wings and see what she can achieve on her own. Starting with this first title...
1982... a sound and style very much in tune with the times, which certainly helps to produce tracks of undeniable quality. The proof is in the pudding...
1983...what's certain is that she's capable of mastering all genres, from Dance to Intimist music. A promising sign for what's to come...
1983...a successful first album, it must be said. The songs are inspired, and that certainly helps to generate positive buzz...
1983... her first album produced a considerable number of tracks, it must be said. Now we just have to see what she has planned for the future...
1984... she decided to revisit Bruna Giraldi's hit song, released shortly before. Unfortunately, it's a copy too close to the original and doesn't add much of anything...
1984...the same goes for this revisited version of Gilbert Montagné's song. It stems from good intentions, but goodwill isn't enough without genuine originality...
1984...the climb is slow but steady, and the big takeoff is drawing ever closer. Patience, patience...
1984...it's not this kind of title that will make her much more famous, but it's the kind of collaborative title that's hard to refuse, that's clear...
1985... the big takeoff won't happen this year, but we're definitely getting closer. To be continued, as they say...
1985... she just needs to raise her game a little more and logically she should be able to do it. She only has one more hurdle to overcome at this stage...
1985... she's certainly working on it, that much is clear. It's therefore obvious that all her efforts will eventually pay off handsomely...
1985...what's certain is that it won't happen during 1985. So she'll have to work a little longer to see the miracle occur...
1985...after a career built over the long term, things happen when they're meant to happen. That's what she tells herself every day...
1986...and in principle she's absolutely right. Especially since this new year could finally be the right one, the year of the long-awaited big takeoff...
1986... a year that would finally see her achieve all her goals. Proof that all it takes is patience and tireless work to reach your objectives...
1986...a tendency to reuse other people's songs is really marked in her case, especially recent songs, with varying degrees of success...
1987...in any case, she finally managed to carve out a place for herself in the sun, a real one. Now she just has to maintain that status, and that's often the biggest challenge in a career worthy of the name...
1987...the concept of the duet on this track is nice, but nothing more. A brief interlude that won't bring him much financial gain, in any case...
1988...an adventure that continues slowly but above all surely, and which allows her to show that she will still be a force to be reckoned with in the years to come...
1988... however, it's clear that she's losing ground to competition that's no longer giving her any breaks. Especially at the end of the 80s...
1988... she will therefore have to think carefully about what the next chapter of the adventure should be and, above all, in which musical direction she intends to go...
1989...because musical trends are changing at the end of this decade and she will therefore have to adapt quickly, otherwise the exit door may open sooner than expected...
1989...for now she has remained too stuck on its fundamentals from the beginning of the decade and that's not really going to help it move into the next decade...
1989...and this kind of title isn't going to help position it ideally for what's to come. A copy that needs revising, as they say...
1990...so here she is attempting the transition to the next decade and we can still sense a semblance of evolution, finally...
1990...for now, the essentials are preserved and she's managing to stay afloat, at least minimally. Let's hope it lasts, as they say...
1990...what is certain is that awareness has dawned and that she is doing everything she can to try to get back in the game, even just a little bit...
1991...there is a real desire to move forward with the times and above all to avoid at all costs falling behind, which could prove irreversible...
1991...admittedly not all the tracks are necessarily of the same level, but the whole thing is still of a sufficient standard to avoid what we would call serious problems...
1991... the year 1991 was a step below 1990, that much is clear. Nothing is certain at this stage and anything is still possible, for better or for worse...
1992...and it's not with this kind of title that she's likely to reverse the trend. Her strategy at this stage is surprising...
1993...you can't say that her songs lack interest, but it's clear that they are no longer of a sufficient level to allow her to compete on equal terms with the competition...
1996...a musical strategy that was quite surprising, to say the least, given the expectations of the general public at the time. It's hard to understand...
1996...some titles fared better than others, but overall she really struggled in the middle of the 90s, it has to be said...
1997...it remains to be seen how she intends to project herself into the future. Continuity in inaction or clear and decisive evolution, good question...
2001...she will attempt to move into the next decade no matter what, but it is clear that she has not necessarily asked herself the right questions...
2001... the sequel was therefore going to be more complicated than expected, inevitably. So she decided to revisit France Gall's 1984 song, but once again her version from early 2000 was frankly lacking in originality...
2001...in any case, nothing seems to make her want to stop there, and she tells herself that in music, anything is always possible. In principle, who could blame her ?
2004... here she is again, with the firm intention of never giving up, as usual. A will to believe until the very end that commands respect, whatever the circumstances...
2004...what's certain is that she's still there, which isn't the case for a lot of colleagues who started at the same time as her...
2005...what's also certain is that you don't last without a definite and, above all, recognized talent. Which she undoubtedly possesses...
2009...she transcends years, decades and trends in its own way, and it doesn't matter whether it's successful or not in the end...
2011...as long as she has a sufficient base of fans to follow her faithfully, why would she throw in the towel prematurely...
2011... that's what she's been telling herself for years, and in principle, she's absolutely right. No matter how many years have passed, as long as the motivation remains intact, it's best to keep moving forward as much as possible...
2014...it had been a long time since she'd pulled off a high-profile cover version. This time, she's bringing back Jeanne Mas's hit song from 1986. Nice try, but nothing groundbreaking...
2014...an adventure that just keeps going and going. And now she decides to change everything, both her sound and her style, but what's gotten into her ? Changes she should have made ages ago...
2023...unfortunately, it was just a brief interlude that lasted only as long as a single track. We thought we might never see her again, but here she is once more, much to the delight of her core fans. And as a gift, this particularly successful track...
