Isaac Hayes was an American singer-songwriter who began his artistic career in the early 1960s as a musician for the Stax Records label. An artistic contribution that will allow this label to display one of the most prominent sound quality of the moment.
The start of the solo career began in 1968 with the release of a first album "Presenting Isaac Hayes", album which unfortunately went somewhat unnoticed.
What is not the case with the second to go unnoticed, far from it ! The album "Hot buttered soul" gave the artist in 1969 his first major success, notably thanks to the flagship title "Walk on by".
A success which was confirmed the following year in 1970 with the consecutive release of 2 albums, starting with "The Isaac Hayes movement" followed shortly by "To be continued". Two very successful albums but which produced few high caliber singles apart from the title “I stand accused” for the first album and “The look of love” for the second.
But it is the year 1971 which will really change the situation with on the one hand the release of the album "Black moses", album which finally allows him to reach a level of planetary notoriety, in particular thanks to his luxury cover of the title of Jackson 5 "Never can say goodbye".
And on the other hand the release of the enormous "Theme from Shaft", the flagship title of the soundtrack of the same name. A title that will undoubtedly remain as his Masterpiece but also as one of the most emblematic titles of the decade ! A soundtrack that would produce another of his hits the following year in 1972 with the title "Do your thing".
Soundtracks that brought him luck since he won a new notorious success still in 1972 with the title "Theme from The Men", theme of the television series of the same name.
The year 1973 will see the release of the album "Joy", album which will know only one success with the single of the same name.
New hit track on a soundtrack in 1974 this time for the film "Tough guys". 1974 also saw the release of the title "Wonderful", a title which adds an additional star to an already well-supplied prize list.
Change of label from the year 1975 and passage at ABC Records with which he released his first album "Chocolate chip", album which allows him to land two new successes with the singles "Chocolate chip" and "Come live with me". First album followed by a second called "Disco connection" still the same year, album which will experience its heyday with the single of the same name.
New album “Juicy fruit (Disco freak)" in 1976, album which sees the singer loosen somewhat in the Charts. A professional disappointment that is combined with a personal financial bankruptcy. Bankruptcy that sees him lose a house, a large part of his personal property as well as a part of the future copyright on anything he may have created or produced ...
New label change in 1977 with an arrival this time at Polydor Records, label with which he released the album "New Horizon" the same year. A modestly successful album which nevertheless produced the big-caliber single “Out of the ghetto”.
The year 1978 saw the release of the album “For the sake of love”, an album which allowed the singer to return to the race a little bit thanks to the single “Zeke the freak”, a title considered today as the one of the founding titles of the House movement.
This improvement was confirmed a year later in 1979 with the release of the album "Don’t let go", an album of certain success and which would produce the flagship single of the same name.
The transition to the 1980s rhymes with the release of the album "And once again", an album of lesser success and which especially sounds the beginning of the end for the singer because it will be his last album to meet a level of success worthy of this name to the public.
He would still experience two, three last single hits with titles like "Ike’s rap VII" in 1986, "Thing for you" in 1987 and "Showdown" in 1988.
Artist who will pass away on August 10, 2008 at the age of 65 following a stroke.
To discover or rediscover.
