Quincy's little ones...

The Brothers Johnson is an American group whose particularity is, as the name of the group indicates, to be at the base a duo composed of the brothers George and Louis Johnson.

Originally, they formed a group called "Johnson Three Plus One" with their brother Tommy and one of their cousins. Then pass into Billy Preston's group before leaving it in 1973.

It was in 1976 that things took an interesting turn for them when Quincy Jones took them under his wing and produced their debut album "Look out for # 1". Album which is spectacularly successful, in particular thanks to the enormous "I'll be good to you".

A year later in 1977, the album "Right on time" was released, a further success thanks to the flagship Single "Strawberry letter 23". Followed in 1978 by the album "Blam !!!" which will also be certified Platinum Disc, like the first two elsewhere.

But the real planetary consecration came in 1980 with the release of the album "Light up the night", album which made a real hit and which contains the now cult "Stomp!"», a major hit that sets every Dancefloor on fire.

The album "Winner" to be released a year later in 1981 could not match the colossal success of the previous one and will have to be content with less success.

The duo will separate in 1982 to begin solo careers.

Tracks :

1976...the beginnings of So 70's. Everything is there : the look, the style, the decorations. A perfect match with their time which offers them a first entry directly...

1976...a first year of existence that saw them radiate throughout the North American continent. An adventure that gets off to an ideal start, to say the least...

1976...three titles just for this year 1976 and the three will be classified. In just one year the duo will have already become one of the phenomena of the moment...

1977...the first planetary mega hit. An ultra-fast ramp-up that produces immediate results, all thanks to this revisited version of Shuggie Otis' 1971 title...

1977...a title that will only be successful in England. Normal you will say to me because it will only be released there, so this explains that !

1977... conversely, this one will only be successful in the United States. And no single exit on this one, hence a relative underperformance...

1978...a year 1978 which starts calmly, as much in terms of tempo as in terms of success in the Charts. After a dazzling career start, the duo is looking for himself as they say...

1978 ... the years go by but are not necessarily alike. The group cannot capitalize on the enormous success of the previous year. On this title, there is a hit but a minor hit...and this despite a more than obvious Dance quality !

1978 ... in the same vein. It's swinging, it's Dance but that's not enough to send the group back to the top of the Charts...

1980 ... a change of decade so well negotiated that it will bring them their biggest hit to date. A AMAZING hit Dance which will surely remain as one of the most emblematic of the 80s. MAS-TER-FUL !

1980...a nice sequel but impossible to compete with the previous gem as the bar has been set high. It is clear that all their titles cannot end up at No.1 in the Charts...

1980 ... an exceptional year which ended in apotheosis with a magnificent Ultimate Slow. Musical style mandatory in any good self-respecting discography ...

1981 ... back to Dance on a 100 % Funky Music track that spins at 200 km/h. We go from one extreme to another ...

1981...a second half of 1981 was much less favorable in terms of success in the Charts. Beginning of the end or simple air gap? Good question...

1982 ... once again a title of certain quality. But the group's success is now limited exclusively to the USA ... What a pity !

1983 ... new Ultimate Slow to save the furniture. But unfortunately that will not be enough to raise the bar ...

1984 ... a small burst of pride that allows them to record a last global hit. Like what, you should never despair !

1984...a title which will pass 'through' what is really not made to reassure. This is the first time this has happened to them...

1988 ... well, this time, no miracle, it is indeed the end. But we end strong with this title once again 100 % Dance and which works perfectly !

1988...come on, it's not quite over. But the titles that follow will go unnoticed to say the least and are more anecdotal than anything else...

1988 ... anyway we will enjoy it until the end especially that they deliver here a last title all in finesse and lightness, which does not spoil anything, quite the contrary ...
