Queen is an English group formed in 1970 by a trio composed of Freddie Mercury, whose real name is Farrokh "Freddie" Bulsara as well as Brian May and Roger Taylor, the latter two coming from the group "Smile".
Formation which will be joined a year later by John Deacon.
Originally, Mercury acted as singer in university groups such as "Ibex" in 1969 and "Sour Milk Sea" in 1970. But he was very interested in the performances of "Smile".
When the singer of "Smile" left the group, Mercury managed to impose himself as a new singer and took the opportunity to rename the group which will now be called Queen.
They released their first album in 1973 which received good reviews but not the expected success with the public.
In 1974 the album "Queen II" was released which, despite a quality single "Seven seas or Rhye", met with only relative success.
It was not until the year 1975 and the release of the album "A night at the opera" from which will be extracted the now cult "Bohemian Rhapsody", a title which alone will have required 3 weeks of studio work, so that sales explode and the group definitely goes from shade to light.
In 1976 the album "A daya t the races" was released, which, although well received, did not meet the same success as the previous one.
New major turning point in 1977 with the release of the album "News of the world", much more hard rock oriented at the end of the 70s, which contains in particular 2 titles which will become planetary hymns thereafter namely "We will rock you" and "We are the champions". The album is a hit and recognition is global.
From the beginning of the 80s, the group changed its tone and decided to use more popular instruments such as the synthesizer.
Released the album "The game" which will extract the flagship title "Another one bites the dust". Also released the soundtrack of the film Flash Gordon which is a new demonstration of the new direction taken by the group.
New album in 1982, "Hot space", disco-funk oriented, and… .new failure.
New turning point in 1983 with the release of the album "The works", much more pop oriented, which despite very average sales contains titles which will later become cult, namely "Radio Ga-Ga" and "I want to break free ”.
Released in 1986 the album "A kind of magic" will not be extracted including the now legendary "Who wants to live forever" with a Mercury at the top of his game.
Then the album "The miracle" in 1989 which will be remembered exclusively for "I want it all".
And finally in 1990, the album which will be the last for Freddy Mercury from which will be extracted the flagship title "The show must go on". Single cult, which has become a planetary anthem ever since and which is used in all television commemorations as soon as a Great of this world passes away.
Freddy Mercury died on November 23, 1991, at the age of 45, of AIDS.
Queen will never recover from this disappearance despite some productions thereafter.
It is impossible to replace a singer such as Mercury who will have made legend into a group that he will have carried at arm's length throughout his existence.
And which will leave titles in history, some of which have become hymns to world fame and which in several centuries will be considered as major compositions of our time.
