The Doobie Brothers is an American group from the early 1970s, originally composed of John Hartman, Tom Johnston, Patrick Simmons and Dave Shogren. A group that can boast of having sold no less than 40 million albums worldwide.
The first eponymous album was released in 1971 and enjoyed only relative success.
It was not until the second album "Toulouse street" and the year 1972 that they recorded their first successes with the flagship titles "Listen to the music" and "Jesus is just alright".
In 1973 the album "The captain and me" was released which offered them their first big hit with "Long train runnin".
Success amplified in 1974 with the album "What were once vices are now habits" which produced the enormous "Black water".
As well as in 1975 with the album "Stampède" from which will be extracted mainly "Take Me in Your Arms (Rock Me)".
From 1976, major changes for the group with change of sound on the one hand. But also on the singer side with the arrival of Michael McDonald.
The same year, the album "Takin 'It to the Streets" was released.
Followed in 1977 by the album "Livin 'on the Fault Line". Two less successful albums.
A strong comeback and total consecration in 1978 with the release of the album "Minute by minute", a flagship album of doobiebrosian discography and which has made a real planetary hit. From which will be extracted the magnificent and intergalactic hit "What a fool believes", among others.
The awards are raining for both the album and the flagship song.
As paradoxical as it may seem, the group is on the verge of implosion, undermined by the ubiquitous commercial pressure and the physical fatigue of the members linked to an excess of tours.
It is therefore a largely reworked formation which returns two years later in 1980 with the album "One step closer" which mainly produces the hit "Real love".
The success can not be less considering the exceptional quality of the previous album.
Less success which will “extinguish” the group for almost 9 years.
A group which was temporarily reborn in 1989 thanks to the success of the album "Cycles" and its flagship title "The doctor".
But this time it will be the last major success for this now legendary group which will leave in history several pieces of anthology.
To discover or rediscover.

1971 ... first title and already first success. A career launched in a dazzling way and which inevitably foreshadows great achievements. And there will be great achievements !
1972 ... the following year, they overdrive. With this title, they get their first planetary hit. The first and certainly not the last !
1973 ... THE title that will really launch them even if it is not their first major success. A title that will explode their international notoriety and this in a spectacular way. They simply sign here one of the most essential titles of the 70s. MAS-TER-FUL !
1973 ... a BIG year 1973 which sees them align title of very large caliber on title of very large caliber. And let's go to last like that for a few more years !
1974 ... a nice ballad typical of those years and which shows that they are good in all registers. Versatility that pays off given the success garnered by this title !
1975 ... meteoric acceleration of the tempo. We go from one extreme to another but everything is perfectly coherent in this revisited version of the title of Eddie Holland dating from 1964. A rare and precious versatility that we find only with the Greatest ...
1976 ... an obvious change in style and tone. A major turning point that will allow them to reach hitherto unequaled heights ...
1977 ... new luxury revival with this time a revisited version of the title of Marvin Gaye dating from 1965. And once again, the copy is of quality. The proof !
1979 ... the HUGE tube which definitively consecrates them as one of the major bands of the moment and which will remain as their greatest achievement. They will have signed 2 major hits of the decade all by themselves and that, few groups of the same generation can say the same. MAS-TER-FUL !
1979 ... a decidedly exceptional year with a second hit in the process. Certainly, at a lower level than the previous one, but still !
1979 ... an absolutely SUMPTUOUS year 1979 which literally sees them crush the competition with an uninterrupted succession of hits. Years like this !
1980 ... a change of decade perfectly mastered and which allows them to register a new star in their prize list. One more !
1980 ... it swings, it grooves, it rocks seriously. An inspiration that hits home almost every time. Even if this title will not be their biggest success, it holds the road, it is clear !
1981 ... a title completely timeless and at odds with the standards of the moment. A daring bet but a winning bet on this one there anyway ...
1981 ... after a very encouraging start to the decade, the group is struggling to find a second wind. They will have to catch up and quickly !
1983 ... after an year 1982 blank, we find them in Intimist mode. All softness, all lightness. Unfortunately, the success will also be...slight !
1989 ... then 6 years without anything ! Big air hole before the Sphinx rose from the ashes in 1989 and produced its last notorious hit. A magnificent adventure which unfortunately comes to an end ...
1989 ... an incredible renaissance to say the least, confirmed with this new title. Not sure that it lasts a long time but everything that is taken is no longer to be taken !
1991 ... they will even have reached the 90s. Difficult but still. With a final on the wheel caps. The end of an incredible adventure that will have allowed this group to deeply mark its era with several titles now legendary !
