Spoons is a Canadian band formed in 1979 in Burlington and originally composed of Gordon Deppe, Sandy Horne, Brett Wickens and Peter Shepherd.
Group whose name would come simply from a meal between the members, members who then ate soup and whose group name 'Spoons' would then have become obvious ...
They released their first single "After the institution" in 1980 with the Mannequin Records label, a single that unfortunately went somewhat unnoticed ...
A year later, in 1981, their first album "Stick figure neighborhood" was released. Album which will meet with a great success in particular in the academic world with titles like "Conventional beliefs" and "Red light".
But it was especially the following year, in 1982, that things really picked up speed with the release of what will remain as the band's biggest hit album, "Arias & Symphonies". The album will bring them spectacularly to the fore with three big-caliber singles "Arias & Symphonies", "Smiling in Winter" but also, and above all, "Nova heart".
A gain in popularity that allows them to attract big names in the industry such as Nile Rodgers, who will produce their new album "Talkback" in 1983. An album which, despite the international stature of its producer, will not go beyond Canadian borders to the dismay of the group and thus considerably limiting its impact ...
It is the soundtrack of the film 'Listen to the city' which will put them back afloat in 1984 thanks to 2 tracks which are "Tell no lies" and "Romantic traffic".
Change of sound at the end of 1985 with the signing with the Anthem Records label, a much more rock oriented label. Label with which they released their new album "Bridges over borders" in 1986, album which will totally disorient the grassroots fans and which will prove to be a real commercial failure.
Business picked up for a while, just 2 years later, with the release of the album "Vertigo tango". Album which sees them return to their fundamentals and which will produce two new notorious hits namely "When time turns around" and "Waterline".
Hits which will unfortunately be the last because anything that comes out afterwards will only have a very limited level of success ...
