Little girl wants the world...

Sapho, whose real name is Danielle Ebguy, is a Franco-Moroccan singer whose stage name is a reference to the poet Sappho. Singer who began her artistic career by joining the Petit Conservatoire de Mireille.

She released her first untitled album in 1977, an album that would go completely unnoticed because it was rejected by the singer who found it too sanitized for her taste by the Production…

We find her in New York at the end of the 1970s, where she plays journalists for the magazine Actuel.

Return to the Old Continent at the start of the 1980s, a comeback that coincided with the recording of a new album, an album that did not do better than its predecessor. Ditto for "Le Paris stupide" which will be released in 1981.

It was not until 1982 and the release of the album "Passage d´enfer" that her career finally began to take off. Album followed a year later by "Barbarie" which also will know for a time or little the favor of the public.

In parallel with her solo career, we find her surprisingly at the same time within the Bande à Basile or with the group Odeurs.

It was with the album "Passions, passions" which came out in 1985 that she finally achieved success, notably thanks to the titles "Globo night" and "Carmel".

A major success, to say the least ephemeral, because the albums that will be released subsequently will only experience a mixed level of success ...

Clips :

1977 ... the singer's potential is obvious from the first title but as she will not believe in this first album, it is difficult to break through in these conditions ...

1980 ... we find her 3 years later in a style that has little to do with what she did previously. Not sure that with such an offbeat style the general public will come to her spontaneously ...

1981 ... the singer's potential is real but her style of the early 1980s is really far, very far, from the commercial standards of the moment ...

1982 ... in any case she does not take it into account and continues her adventure as she sees fit. After, not sure that this jusqueboutisme is the best solution to break into broad daylight ...

1983 ... she never did and above all, never will do, like everyone else. A stance displayed and claimed but which will necessarily isolate her from the beginning to the end of her career ...

1984 ... there is better on this title, it is clear. The sound finally sticks to what the general public expects but she can not help adding its touch of madness which suddenly inevitably slows down the impact of the title ...

1985 ... the BIG year. This year 1985 will finally be the good one and the singer will finally pass from the shadows to the light in a consequent way. We no longer believed in it but this time it's now done ...

1985 ... it will have taken a long time to find herself but now that it's done, she unrolls in an impressive way. Hope it lasts as they say ...

1985 ... chase the natural, it comes back at a gallop. While we thought that she had really calmed down and that she had put aside her wacky side, here she is back in speed mode, to say the least. Not necessarily a good omen for the rest of the events ...

1987 ... she limits the breakage with this title and proves once again that when she wants, she can do like ordinary people. But we feel that the average person is not her trip ....

1987 ... we would never have imagined it in soft mode and yet here is the best example. She really had all the cards in her hand to do great things but her whimsical personality will have worked more against her than anything else ...

1987 ... an unlikely association to say the least. Two radically opposed personalities who nevertheless decide to push the song together on this title. And why not you will tell me ...

1988 ... he really lacked not much to be part of the female musical elite of the 1980s on the French side. Maybe just a less talkative personality ...

1988 ... what a pity she didn't do more like that. Her early career will have marginalized her too much and she will never have managed to re-enter the leading pack. Frankly shame ...

1991 ... anyway, that does not prevent her from continuing her adventure always in her own way. After what she runs, there is only her to know at this point ...

1991 ... peaceful general atmosphere, it is clear. It is clear that the Sappho of the end of the 80s and the beginning of the 90s no longer has much to do with the Sappho of the beginning of the 80s ...

1991 ... she continues in finesse and delicacy, who would have believed it...? There are really 2 distinct personalities in this singer, one completely evaporated and the other a real and perceptible sensitivity ...

1995 ... it is clear that she does more some figuration than anything else now but for her, the main thing is to participate at first sight. Isn't that the main thing ...

2008 ... we will lose sight of her for a hell of a lot of years and here she is back in this decade of 2000. To do what, we really ask ourselves the question ...

2011 ... even if there is more than her to believe in it, as long as she takes pleasure in it, it is the essential as said. She could therefore be found again later, who knows ...
