Modern English is an English group formed in 1979 in Colchester by Robbie Gray, Gary McDowell and Michael Conroy. Who will be joined quickly by Richard Brown and Stephen Walker.
Their first single "Limp" was released in 1979 and was only very successful.
It was a year later in 1980 that the band had their first two hits with "Swans on glass" and "Gathering dust". Modest successes but success nonetheless.
The year 1981 saw the release of their first album "Mesh & Lace". Album that performs a more than honorable journey in the Charts. Ditto for the single “Smiles and laughter” which came out the same year.
The beginning of international recognition began in 1982 when the album "After the snow" was released. Album driven mainly by the hit "I melt with you" which will go strong on both sides of the Atlantic.
Two years later in 1984 the album "Ricochet days" was released, which in turn was popular with the public. “Chapter 12” will be the flagship single and to a lesser extent “Hands across the sea”.
The album "Stop Start" was released two years later in 1986 but went relatively unnoticed. The group did not recover and imploded shortly thereafter.
Then will come back later and produce other albums, albums which will unfortunately go unnoticed to say the least...

1984 ... a title which will only be classified in the USA. No one is a prophet in his country as they say. But at least it allows them to save the furniture ...
1986 ... not much to eat in this new year. A title that will not even be classified despite a significant quality however ...
1986...this one will also pass under the radar, which is incomprehensible to say the least. A year 1986 which would have frankly deserved to be a little better rewarded on the Charts side...
1990 ... a new decade which will see them disappear from the radar, like many colleagues. An atypical group which will have produced, in any case, several high class titles
1991...we don't think the group will recover from it and that this title is likely to be the last one. But it's hard to know them...
1996... because here they are again 5 years later and surely not decided to throw in the towel. The adventure will therefore continue, to the delight of the basic fans...
1996 ... certainly, we do not lie, the best years are now behind them. But what they will continue to offer is far from devoid of interest, that's clear...
1996...a group that is slowly but surely approaching 20 years of career. A busy career of which they have nothing to be ashamed of, far from it...
2010 ... when we thought the case was definitely folded, here they come back again almost 14 years later. They will have taken the time to reflect, to say the least...
2010...unfortunately the return will have been too late and there are not many people left to be interested in them. Really unfortunate...
2010... after, as long as they enjoy what they do, there's no reason why they shouldn't continue the adventure. And frankly, who would complain...
2016... the air holes follow one another but they come back inexorably. This time, we will lose sight of them for almost 6 years and here they are back in a form that we will qualify as certain...
2016...certain but not enough to bring them back into the race. Afterwards, once again it will be the basic fans who can only be delighted with this umpteenth comeback...
