Joe Jackson, whose real name is David Ian Jackson, is an English singer-songwriter who started his musical career by learning the violin. Instrument that he quickly abandoned in favor of the piano.

His nickname "Joe" would come from his resemblance to the character "Joe90" from the famous English science fiction series dating from the late 60's.

From the age of 16, he played in bars and obtained a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London.

His first group was called "Edward Bear" then "Edwin Bear" then "Arms and Legs" but ended up disappearing in 1976 for lack of success despite the release of 2 singles.

He then redirected himself to the cabarets in which he recorded several models.

And it was in 1978 that he was noticed and signed with A&M Records.

Sort out the albums "Look Sharp!" and "I’m the man" in 1979 then "Beat crazy" in 1980. Relatively successful albums.

It was in 1982 that the artist was finally rewarded for his efforts with the album "Night and day" from which the flagship singles "Real men" and especially the emblematic "Steppin out", which remains one of his biggest hits.

He did it again two years later with the title "You can’t get what you want" from the album "Body and soul".

Which will be his last major successes.

He will produce other albums thereafter but never find the same level of success as in 1982 and 1984.

To discover or rediscover.

Clips :

1979 ... the very encouraging beginnings of a future heavyweight in the global music scene. After a first version released the previous year and which will have gone completely under the radars, this one on the other hand will propel him in a smashing fashion on the front of the scene. HU-GE !

1979 ... a completely boosted sequel which will not have the same level of success as the previous title but which holds up, it's clear

1979 ... a great year 1979 with a second top hit on the clock. A career that started on the wheel hats, it is clear !

1980 ... who says change of decade, says evolution. An evolution that does not really stick to the new musical standards of the moment unfortunately ...

1981 ... and it is not this title which risks changing the situation. Paradoxically, this still allows him to come back a little bit in the race. Go figure ...

1982 ... the style has been refined, less rough. Maturation which is timely because the vessel was starting to take on water from all sides ...

1982 ... then arrives this HUGE title which will raise him One Shot to the rank of planetary star. He simply signs here the biggest success of his career and offers himself a direct ticket for posterity. MAS-TER-FUL !

1983 ... a dynamic of success that does not weaken from an Iota and that keeps the artist in the leading pack

1984 ... the confirmation of a talent decidedly above average and who sees him deliver one of his most emblematic titles here. MAS-TER-FUL !

1984 ... a duo of shock and charm to say the least explosive. Anyway, the result is very nice to say the least

1986 ... we really wonder when the singer appears on the title. Ah, he is at the piano in truth, hence his absence on the vocals side. CQFD ...

1986 ... he continues on his little path without worrying about the musical evolutions that begin in this mid-decade. Risky bet ...

1989 ... more for 3 years and here he comes back in film soundtrack mode. A title specially produced for the film 'Tucker' and which will be a definite success

1989 ... he finally became aware of the latest sound evolutions and adapted to them. What better way to end this decade on a high note and show that you can still count on him ?

1991 ... he will even attempt the transition to the next decade. For the moment he saves the essential but beware of the risk of irreversible unscrewing ...

1991 ... a year 1991 which allows him to stay afloat but for how long. We will be quickly fixed ...

1991 ... the end of the adventure. He will have tried to stay in the race, whatever the competition, but the competition is already light years ahead. Impossible to compete under these conditions ...
