Guess who is coming to dinner...

Not much interesting info about Black Uhuru other than the fact that it's a Jamaican band formed in Kingston in 1972 and originally composed of Euvin Spencer, Rudolph Dennis and Derrick Simpson.

Group that will remain primarily in the musical history of the 80 for the wholesale single caliber "What is life" released in 1984.

As such alone, we had to devote this article to them.

To discover or rediscover.

Clips :

1975 ... the first steps. A sound that goes well, just like the style. Rather a good omen for the rest of the events as they say ...

1977 ... a luxury cover which is certainly not worth the original, but which holds up. This version of Bob Marley's title from 1971 offers at least an original alternative ...

1977 ... a year 1977 which saw them play it all luxury covers. Well, since they take all the highest standards of the Master, who would blame them ...

1978 ... the time for emancipation has come. A linear rise in power which augurs well for a most interesting career continuation ...

1979 ... the end of the 1970s which saw them unroll quietly. They still can not produce THE title that could propel them to the front of the stage but they believe in it anyway

1979 ... a decade of 70 to hatch and especially to be known. The objective is reached even if for the moment the level reached does not allow them to compete with the Master ...

1980 ... new decade and new goals ? Not sure because for the moment, the group remains braced on its fundamentals and we hardly see any major evolution in their style, it's clear ...

1981 ... a quiver of style evolution seems to emerge. The group seems to finally take the measure of new trends in their particular field ...

1982 ... year after year, decade after decade, the group slowly but surely climbs the levels. Admittedly, at a moderate speed, but still ...

1982 ... of course they will not stay in history as the best reggae group in the world but what they offer holds up and that's the main thing

1983 ... they continue their little path quietly but surely. The quality is sufficient and above all constant. What more...

1983 ... their style will have changed little since their beginnings. It must be said that in their musical field, there are very few possible developments ...

1984 ... they try all the same to adapt to the new trends of the moment while keeping their fundamentals. And it works quite well after all ...

1985 ... 1 step forward, 2 steps back. Too bad because they were on a rather positive dynamic of evolution and this title unfortunately sends them back a few years ...

1986 ... this title will not do better. It's nice, certainly, but still not enough to hope to be among the Elite. Hard law of the trade ...

1987 ... the years go by and the group is unfortunately on the spot. Too bad because the potential was real but they did not know how to make it grow ...

1989 ... end of decade identical to everything else. We must therefore conclude that the long-awaited miracle will not take place, it is clear ...

1990 ... they will still have managed to reach the 90s, that's already it. This will not change the situation concerning them, but it will at least have shown that they can do it over time ...
