But who relieved his pain...

Gerard Berliner, whose real name is Raymond Berliner, was a French singer, songwriter whose particularity, apart from having performed one of the most beautiful songs of the 1980s on the French side, is that he was the half-brother of a notorious gangster from the 80s, namely Bruno Berliner from the Gang des Postiches.

He started his artistic career at the age of 13 as an actor in small roles in cinema and theater. And it was in 1974 that his career as a singer began when he had his first success with the title "Pour toi je veux vivre".

Noticed by Serge Lama in 1978, the latter made him appear in the first part of his concerts.

But it was in 1982 that everything changed for him when the magnificent title "Louise" was released from the album "Voleur de mamans", a title that sold more than a million and a half copies !

The album "Je porte ma vie" and "La mémoire profane" were released in 1983 and 1984, albums which, despite an obvious quality, would not meet with the expected success. Other albums will be released in the 90s, an album with very relative success.

The fate of the singer will change forever on October 13, 2010 when he is struck down by a heart attack.

But we will always remember these sublime words for a long time: "But who relieved his pain, carried his wood, carried buckets, offered a woolen scarf, the day of the horse fair ...".

To discover or rediscover.

Clips :

1974 ... the beginnings typical of the 1970s. It is impossible to imagine at this stage that it is the same singer who will produce one of the most beautiful titles of this end of the XXth century on the French side ...

1978 ... certainly, after a few years, the style and the voice are set up but it is clear that there is still work ...

1978..the work is bearing fruit and it is clear that the artist is now at the gates of an adventure which will very quickly take on incredible proportions. Patience, patience ...

1980 ... this time, everything is there. The style, the voice, everything is finally ready for the arrival of the Wonder. But at this precise moment, it is difficult to imagine what will happen 2 years later ...

1982 ... the WONDER ! What will surely remain as one of the most beautiful songs of the 80s on the French side. Incredible lyrics and inspiration that literally transcend an incredible song that will make the performer famous and successful. MO-NU-MEN-TAL !

1982 ... an absolutely exceptional year 1982 which saw him literally explode on the music scene. Certainly, in a register which is very particular to him, but which he masters to perfection !

1982 ... a title that will not be released as a Single but with more than certain quality once again. It would have been a shame not to bring it back to light, that's clear...

1983 ... he repeats a year later with a magnificent ballad in tribute this time to the grannies ! A truly unique talent in the Intimist area that allows him to align an exceptional piece with an exceptional piece. MAG-NI-FI-CENT !

1983 ... another title with incredible lyricism and which literally floats in the air once again. A truly unique know-how on the French side in the mid-1980s. MA-GIC !

1984 ... the years go by without the quality of writing weakening by an Iota. Certainly, his obstinacy to maintain himself in the Intimist domain will inevitably end up marginalizing him, but as long as it works ...

1986 ... he temporarily leaves the Intimist domain to switch to a totally improbable domain for this mid-decade where everything normally has to revolve around Dance. A damn daring bet ...

1986 ... he finally dares to take risks and tries to stick to the musical standards that predominate at that time. And even if this title is quality, it is unfortunately too late, the train of novelty has passed and he missed it ...

1988 ... suddenly, he sets out again in the only field which seems to suit him. Unfortunately, the public is now expecting something else from him and has already moved on to other things. Pity...

1990 ... and we may change decade, he does not change and persists against all odds to remain in the register 'With emotions'. An above-average talent that really deserved recognition much higher than it was. But fate will have decided otherwise ...

1992 ... one has the impression of having gone back 10 years as the music and the style are closely related to what he was doing at that time. A rear machine that was difficult to understand in this 90s decade ...

1994 ... year after year, decade after decade, he does not vary by one Iota and traces its path on the same road. A very surprising journey which will remain as one of the richest on the inspiration side but also as one of the least rich in terms of diverse and varied sounds

1995 ... outside of time, outside of standards, outside of any questioning. An almost unique case of the French musical landscape at the end of the 20th century

1996 ... always and again. Surely one of the most provided Intimist discographies. We would have loved to see him explore other ways and especially other tempos ...

1998 ... the years go by and everything is frozen. Everything floats, inexorably, invariably, eternally. A truly extraordinary talent and a career managed in a totally atypical way ...

1998 ... no, we won't forget him, that's clear. The proof with this article which tells the incredible story of one of the best artists of his generation and who however will not have had the recognition that he deserved. Tchao the artist !

Top Bonus : 2014...when the young generation brings to light one of the most outstanding titles of the 80s on the French side...
