Anita Baker is an American singer and songwriter who started her artistic career at the age of 16 singing in nightclubs in Detroit.
It was on this occasion that she got noticed by David Washington. Which will allow her to join the "Chapter 8" group. We are then in 1975 and the adventure will last 4 years.
After the band disbanded in 1979, the singer resumed a normal life until 1982. When Otis Smith, of the Ariola label, convinced her to return to the game this time through a solo career.
She thus released her first album "The songstress" in 1983. Album which produced 4 singles including "Angel" which became her first title ranked in the R&B Top10. Followed by little "You’re the best thing yet" which will complete a more than honorable course.
She had to wait for 1986 and a change of label in the meantime to see the release of the album "Rapture" which was to be extracted from the enormous "Sweet love". As well as two other hits which are "Caught up in the rapture" and "No one in the world". The album ultimately sold over 8 million copies worldwide !
She did it again two years later in 1988 with the album "Giving you the best that I got" which hit the mark upon its release. In particular thanks to the eponymous single which became his highest ranked single on that date. Followed by a few "Just because" which also performs well.
Another two years passed before the album "Compositions" was released in 1990. Album which sees the singer investing much more in the composition of the tracks and in which she introduces a more important jazzy base than in the previous ones. Album with less success than the previous ones and which will mainly produce the single "Talk to me".
She allowed herself a break that would last a few years and came back in force in 1994 with the album "Rhythm of love". New success with 2 million copies sold in the end. From which will be extracted the flagship title "Body and soul".
Which will be his last major hit. Other titles will be released later but will never reach the same sales levels as the previous ones.

1983 ... all smooth, all finesse, all lightness. The 3 key words that perfectly sum up Anita's future career ...
1983 ... while the standards of the time are all dance oriented, the singer prefers to venture into much more glamorous terrain. And my faith, it rather succeeds !
1984 ... a not very prolific year 1984 with only one title on the clock. And once again, Anita is playing the charm and pleasure card ...
1986 ... a year 1985 empty, we find her the following year in a dazzling form. To the point where she signs here the biggest success of his career. MAS-TER-FUL !
1986 ... a beautiful year 1986 when everything was successful. She goes on to a second success which, of course, will not have the same level of success as the previous one but which will largely stand out
1987 ... a year 1987 a little more complicated to manage than the previous one. Anyway, we find Anita in semi Dance mode. A first !
1988 ... 1986 was an exceptional vintage, 1988 will come closer. Even years bring her luck at first sight. The proof with this new top hit !
1988 ... as in 1986, she signed a second title of great caliber in stride. A dynamic which does not weaken and which allows her to remain within the sure values of the moment
1989 ... the end of the decade once again under the sign of glamor at all costs. A trademark that she will defend with flying colors until the end !
1990 ... which says even year with Anita, says...success. Once again the proof with this title which allows her to start the new decade of the best he is
1990 ... she now loves to alternate slow and fast pace. An interesting bias but which positions the titles straddling several musical fields and marginalizes them somewhat ...
1994 ... of course, the year 1990 could have suggested that the singer was leaving quietly, but surely, on the same bases as the previous decade. Unfortunately, this will turn out to be more complicated than expected. Few titles will be successful ...
1995 ... what better way to finish than a sumptuous duo of charm and shock. On a particularly inspired title. MA-GIC !
