The Commodores is an American group formed in 1968 whose particularity, apart from having produced certain hits, is that it had as singer a certain ... Lionel Richie, a figure very emblematic of the 80s.
Originally, the group was the result of the union of 2 other groups, on the one hand "The Mystics" and on the other hand "The Jays".
And his name was chosen at random from the dictionary. William "WAK" King, the name "finder" then said : "We are doing well because we could have been called" The Commodes ""!
The group produced three albums between 1975 and 1976 : "Caught in the Act", "Movin’ on" and "Hot on the tracks" which will be considered emblematic of their 'Funk period'.
The following years will be more like ballads.
Their biggest hit will be "Easy" which came out in 1977. Shortly followed by "Three times a lady" which came out in 1978.
In 1979, it was the titles "Sail on" and "Still" which achieved great performances on the Charts side.
1981 will be another good year with 2 titles ranked in the Top 10 namely "Oh no" and "Lady (You bring me up)".
The great adventure unfortunately ended in 1982 with the departure of Lionel Richie who took off for a solo career, the results of which are known.
Because even if the group will continue to exist, it will only decline as it is almost impossible to replace a singer of such a caliber.
