Siouxsie And The Banshees is an English group formed in 1976 in London by singer Siouxsie Sioux (real name Susan Ballion) and bassist Steven Severin.
It was in 1978 that the group stood out when they released the Single "Hong-Kong garden". Single with nice success.
The first album "The scream" comes out in the wake and has an honest and beautiful esteem success.
In 1979, it was "Join hands" album released, followed by legendary concerts. But the adventure came to an end following conflicts within the group and the hasty departure of 2 of its members.
A year later, in 1980, the album "Kaleidoscope" was released, from which the hits "Happy house" and "Christine" were taken.
The year 1981 saw the release of the album "Juju" which contains the now legendary "Spellbound" which remains to this day one of the most emblematic tracks of the group.
In 1982, the album "A kiss in the dream house" was released. Critically acclaimed album that includes the excellent "Melt" and "Fireworks".
A year later, the legendary Robert Smith, leader of the Cures, joined the boat and became the group's official guitarist. It will remain so for 2 years.
The same year released the Single "Dear prudence", taken from a Beatles title.
Then it was the album "Hyaena" which came out in 1984 and contains two excellent titles which are "Swimming horses" and "Dazzle".
New Single "Cities in Dust" in 1985 followed a year later by the album "Tinderbox" from which it was extracted. Once again, the album received excellent reviews.
In 1987, it was the album "Trough the looking glass" which released the flagship Single "This wheel’s on fire".
The group had its biggest success in the USA in 1988 with the album "Peepshow", notably thanks to the titles "Peek-a-boo" and "" The last beat of my heart ", which the press praised.
Three years will pass before the 1991 release of the album "Superstition" which contains the excellent "Kiss them for me".
The adventure ended in style in 1992 with the release of the Single "Face to face" from the soundtrack of the film "Batman : the challenge".
A last album will be released in 1994 without experiencing the same success as the previous ones.
The group will separate soon after, Siouxsie Sioux deciding to devote full time to his other group "The Creatures".
Siouxsie and the Banshees will remain as one of the flagship groups of the Coldwave, a musical current recognizable among all by a bass sound as well as a very particular and unique electric guitar sound.
But it will also remain in history by the extraordinary personality of its singer, as well as by its gothic-punko-decadent look which remains a reference in the matter !
