For those who think young...

Rough Trade is a Canadian band formed in 1968 by Carole Pope and Kevan Staples, originally under the name 'O'. It was in 1973 that the group officially took the name 'Rough Trade' and welcomed new members Chris Faulkner, Bob Jennings and Donny McDougal.

It was only from 1980 that the group began to take off with the release of the album "Avoid Freud", an album which would have its moment of glory in Canada, notably thanks to the controversial Single "High school confidential", single torrid access to the lesbian aspect.

But it was above all with the following album “For those who think young”, which was released the following year, that the group finally achieved global recognition, mainly thanks to the flagship Single “All touch”.

A new successful album “Shaking the Foundations” would be released a year later in 1982 but struggled to produce any Single of global class.

The adventure will subsequently continue with the release of other albums but none will be able to match the excellent sales scores of the beginning of the decade.

1976...beginnings which will go somewhat unnoticed but you have to start well one day as they say. It is now done...

1976...the group's potential is real but insufficient at this stage to hope to impress the general public more than that...

1976...the group will therefore have to redouble its efforts to hope to eventually reach the big leagues. They work there, they work there...

1979...we find them in soundtrack mode at the very end of the decade on the film 'Cruising'. A presence that won't bring them more than that...

1980...we must therefore hope that this transition to the following decade will finally allow them to achieve part of their objectives. At least we hope so...

1980...they will finally win a first classified title with this title. Certainly classified only in Canada but that's at least that...

1981...a rise in power which will be confirmed the following year with this new success. The tide has finally turned in their favor...

1981...not only did he turn in the right direction but he was also going to push them to the top with this title which will remain as their highest ranked of all. Finally !

1981...they will not be able to repeat the feat but what is taken is no longer worth taking, especially since the adventure is far from over...

1981...of course it won't last for decades yet, but still. A group which will not remain as the most talented of its generation but which will certainly not have failed, that's clear...

1982...on the albums side the adventure continues to be great with a significant presence in the Charts. A little less favorable on the Singles side unfortunately...

1982...this does not discourage them in any way and they say to themselves that the adventure is worth pursuing at least a little...

1982...and frankly who would complain about that when you see what they continue to offer. Nothing exceptional but good work in any case...

1983...a year 1983 which will mark the breaking point between the prosperous period and the beginning of the end of the adventure. It had to happen one day or another...

1983...an end of adventure which does not mean a sudden drop in quality. There is still a minimum...

1983...a group that missed out on its history a little bit because he had the potential to do great things but unfortunately settled for the minimum in the end...

1984...the last opus. The adventure will not even have lasted 10 years but it will still have produced several high-caliber titles which is already quite a lot...

1985...we no longer believed it but they will ultimately succeed in classifying this title and its predecessor. Certainly only in Canada but that's at least...
