Pat Benatar, whose real name is Patricia Mae Andrzejewski, is an American singer who has placed 17 Singles in Top40, sold more than 30 million albums and received 4 Grammy Awards alone.
It is by marrying Dennis Benatar at 18 that she will take her husband's name as the stage name. Husband from whom she will quickly separate.
She quickly left her job as a bank employee to run the auditions.
And it was in 1977 that this extraordinary singer, whose voice covers 4 octaves, got noticed in an amateur competition where she caused a sensation dressed in a vampire costume.
She signed with Chrysalis Records in 1978 and it was a year later that her first album "In the heat of the night" was released, from which her first big hit "Heartbraker" would be released.
The second album "Crimes of passion" was released in 1980 confirming the success of the previous one.
It notably contains the flagship Single "Hit me with your best shot".
One of the biggest hits was to follow the album “Precious times” later, so the excerpt from “Fire and ice”. 1982 saw the release of the album "Get nervous" which contained the excellent "Shadows of the night".
A very special year for the singer who married her guitarist and producer Neil Giraldo.
The year 1983 will be the year of consecration with the release of what will remain as her biggest hit, namely "Love is a battlefield" and which will be illustrated by an anthology clip shot as a real short film.
A year later, another huge hit with "We belong" from the album "Tropico".
Another new album in 1985 "Seven the hard way" whose main extract will be "Invincible".
Sales are starting to slow down.
For the next album, it will take 3 years and 1988 to see "Wide awake in dreamland", with a much more rock sound.
The album enjoyed relative success in Anglo-Saxon countries, notably the flagship title "All fired up".
It will be the last major success and the years that follow will only confirm the slow and inexorable decline of this extraordinary singer made in the USA and who will remain as one of the most emblematic of the 80s.
But that won't stop her from continuing the adventure later and in a very good way...
