Eric Carmen was an american singer-songwriter who started his career in a group called 'The Raspberries', a group with which he produced 4 successful albums between 1972 and 1974 and notably produced the hit Single "Go all the way" in 1972.
The solo career began a year later in 1975 and in what way !
That year he will produce what will remain as his reference title, namely the enormous “All by myself”, a title based on the second movement of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2.
Flagship title that we will find on his first eponymous album which will also be released that year and which will be covered a few years later by a certain...Céline Dion, who in 1996 will make it one of her biggest global successes, nothing less than that !
He will be inspired again by Rachmaninoff on his second title "Never gonna fall in love again", this time from the 3rd movement of the latter's Symphony No. 2. A title which was released the following year in 1976 and confirmed the artist's status as a revelation of the moment.
New album “Boats against the current” in 1977, an album with less success than its predecessor and which mainly produced the Single “She did it”.
A semblance of decline which will subsequently be confirmed with the relative success of the albums “Change of heart” in 1978, “Tonight you're mine” in 1980 and “Eric Carmen” in 1985. Three albums which will struggle to produce the slightest planet-class Single.
This is the soundtrack to a small film that will put him back in the spotlight in a resounding way to say the least in 1987 and not just any small film. Indeed, it will be part of the 'Dirty Dancing' soundtrack through its title “Hungry eyes”. A title which will be the second biggest success of the artist thanks to a global success finally worthy of the name.
New hit song the following year "Make me lose control", a title which unfortunately will be his last notable success.
A final album “I was born to love you” was released in 2000 but only met with a mixed level of success, to say the least.
Artist who will leave us definitively on March 11, 2024 at the age of 74 at first sight of natural death.
